Not a rant just something I noticed
« on: November 03, 2006, 04:11:34 PM »
Okay. Yesterday I was checking out the display balls from brunswick. There was on the rack 2 Vapor Zones.

Vapor Zone #1 was USA made because it has the engraving on it. The balls surface was nice and smooth with a rough buff polish on it. Plus the colors are nicely blended varying between violet blue to almost like a cobalt blue.

Vaper Zone #2 was Mexico made, no engraving. The surface on this ball was rough buff polished but it looked like someone took 100 grit sand paper and hit the surface with short straight line strokes! Its not smooth to the touch and the colors absolutely suck, its easily the most ugliest Vapor Zone ive ever seen. The lighter blue is like a teal with the darker blue. It could look sweet if there was more of a mix of colors but theres not.

Im seeing more balls with this same surface problem, there was a rampage and punisher with the same weird scuff markings that was on the vapor zone.

Weird...

I've noticed the colors are more vibrant and better mixed.

The only complaint I have is on my radical (which I drilled last week),  you can feel wavy line's on the ball.  I don't want to play with the cover yet untill I get a few more games on it.  The color's are amazing especially under black light.

Thats what im talking about, the wavy lines. I wonder if that plays a role in the balls overall reaction in OOB finish. As for the ball colors, it could be just a weird/ball color mix.

the radical i got had wavy lines all over it too.  I think its grinding marks..  They really need to fix this. .  Also, I can't believe the people who run things down there let these ball go out.  They don't look good at all...

That's what we found here in Germayn on 2 RadI, too: the surface was kinda rippled - any mirror reflection was distorted, while "older" polished balls (like a PG) were perfectly in shape. You could also see streaks from the sanding process "under" the polish - very unusual for a Brunswick ball IMHO.

Not that it matters, but please note that the wavy lines do not affect performance of the ball.  I hit my Red Zone with a scotch brite pad and then shined it back up with Brunswick polish.  The lines went away and the reaction was still the same.  I do agree they need to get this worked out though.  I have been told it is something the in manufacturing of the ball that is causing the wavy lines.

I've seen the same on two Power Grooves in my shop.  I didn't notice it until I went to drill one.  I don't know if the customer noticed, but this does not toll well for Big B.  I'm going to a seminar Friday.  I'll bring it up.

I attended a seminar yesterday and the Brunswick rep did talk about the grinding marks on the balls.  They are aware of the problem and are trying to correct it.
