3.5 performance... HELP!!
« on: December 22, 2010, 05:15:03 AM »
Just got my 15lb 3.5 drilled and i wanted it to be as aggresive as possible so i put the pin below ring finger and cg kicked out a little over an inch.  No balance hole was needed.  Threw 4 games with it last night and got ZERO reaction out of it on out of box finish.  Took surface down to 1000 and it barely started moving.  Everything i've seen from this ball online shows it being a BIG hooking ball and everyone that throws it stands left and throws way right...  What is the problem?  i'm completely lost on why i'm getting virtually no movement even when i stand in the middle of the lane and throw down the 15 board...  my throw is 19-20 mph and around 425 revs.

You've got a low pin with a rolly layout from a rolly ball and added surface to it.  Plus 425 revs!  You shouldn't need anything with surface!  Probably need to bring it back up to 4000....or wait until you're on a pattern with enough head oil to allow the ball to store energy.  That thing is probably done hooking at your feet.  Most of todays balls are so strong now, you rarely have to take them down past 2000 abralon to get them to hook in the oil.  Especially when you have 425 revs!

On my 3.5, I went pin over the ring finger and have essentially left it at box finish.  Gets into a roll early and gives good pop on the backend.  But it needs oil and will work a fresh pattern down to nothing quick so I find I'm quickly migrating into my Wicked or 2.5.

PROFILE
340-370 revs
18 mph
230 book on THS
200 book on PBA

I have 2 ea pin over and under. I tried to use on Sport shots both are boat anchors. I have tried 500 grit to 4000 no luck. A Friend asked me to polish his up. he said I want to look like a marble. So I sanded it 500,1000, 2000, 4000, then polish the daylights out of it. On a house shot he got great back end reaction. So I took My pin over and did the same. After a half of game it started to work great had the next 13 in a row .  Very little over reaction until 3rd game had to move left then week 10's and a few blow out 7 pins. I liked what I saw I will try it again this weekend and I will Polish up the pin under also . Lets see how this one works also.

Mine is drilled with the pin right above the bridge, with the mb about an inch to the right of the thumbhole.  I am pretty much a stroker/tweener, with probably average speed.  I have left it at box finish, but made sure to clean it after every set.  I have hit it with green scotch bright when I have seen it shine up a little, but very lightly.

For me, if I let it roll, it hooks great.  I have only used it on a THS, so hard to say how it would respond to more or longer oil.  Used it last two games last week and went 276, 248 for a 771, my second highest series ever!

I like this one after not using a Brunswick for many years.  I am curious if anyone thinks the pin above v. below is the determining factor here (I know it depends on a lot of other things, but what the heck).
