I just picked up a used Absolute, and its turned out to be a real gem for me. My Pap is 4 1/2, 0 and its drilled pin next to the ring, right around 3 oclock from the ring finger, with the CG kicked in a little bit. I also have a Scorchin thats drilled 1E right off Brunswicks drill sheet, that puts the pin around 4 oclock from the ring finger, with the CG kicked out a hair. Both balls have an oob surface on them.
On the heavier volume oil shots put out on my summer sports shot league, im finding the Absolute is working much better for me. It revs up nicely and covers enough boards to give me solid carry even with a fairly strait line. The Scorchin however tends to slide almost the whole way and never really makes a drive to the pocket.
Now this is my first time bowling on heavier volume oils and not your THS, so its confusing to me that the ball I got for heavier oil, the Scorchin, isnt working as well as the Absolute on thoes conditions. To add to that confusion the Scorchin is drilled stronger, according to Brunswicks drill sheets. So a stronger converstock and stronger drilling arent handling oil better. Someone who also has the Scorchin in my league said that was because of the lower RG of the Absolute.
Im hoping someone can shed a little light on this situation for me. Ive had success on a THS with the Scorchin following the oil line, but I really got the ball for heavier oil on tournaments and this sports league. I guess what im asking is a couple of things:
Is what im seeing make sense and a typical reaction?
Should I look for a dull lower RG ball to handle heavier oil even better?
Would a second Absolute sanded down fit that bill?
Should I have the drilling checked out on the Scorchin?
I will say I love the reactions im getting with my Absolute and my Smokin Infernos, im just trying to decide if there really is a place in my arsenal for the Scorchin, and where that is.
Thanks
