This was something that tended to plague the old version of the site from time to time.  The issue now seems to have cropped up with the revised look.  It initially was working and you could put in a part of someone's name and get all matching options (including searching by just a letter of the alphabet).  Now I just get a big batch of white space...

 

This issue seems to have cropped up just within the past 24-48 hours...

 

I had a couple of users that I was trying to see when they last logged in (would prefer not to mention in a public manner) and when those created a blank section where the information would usually appear in a list format, I then tried searching for my own ID in the UserList.  Got the same result. 

 

However, when I tried after making the first post in this report, it seemed to be functioning as intended.  Which makes it the same sporadic issue like we had in Gen2 of the board (the one immediately prior to this version), just without a specific error message showing up.
