A minor gripe about selling/trading balls here...
« on: June 30, 2005, 01:48:20 PM »
I do not offer up balls for sale or trade on here often, but I have noticed something every time that I have tried.  I was curious if other users have experienced this too.

I try to give an accurate description of all equipment, and also offer pictures.  The problem I have is that while many users ask me for pics of said equipment, I never hear back from them after the pics are sent.  It would be nice to receive a message saying "thanks, but it is not what I am looking for" or something to that effect.  That leads to my other quip which is- why ask for pics if you aren't interested in the stuff in the first place?  If I give an accurate description of a ball, and someone asks for a pic, I assume that they are interested in purchasing or trading.  I know that my descriptions of the condition are not that far off as to deter someone from doing business with me just after seeing a few pictures.  Am I way off base here or what?

No, you're not off base. Its irritating! Why can't they just say no thanks if they don't like what they see. Don't leave people hanging.

I know the feeling...a lot of " send me a pic" or what's the best deal I can get ?...then nothing. Here lately, it's been..." Money Order in the mail" it's been 3 weeks and nothing, no M/O , no reply to messages no reply to emails. I'd rather be told..That's more than I wanted to spend or No Thnaks..

When I ask about a ball, if I don't really want the deal, at least I tell them so, that way they don't have to tell someone else..it's pending, and maybe not sell the ball.
Just how I do things.

I have had some inquiries in the past that did the same thing. I even had a user who was interested in a white dot that I did not use anymore, all they had to do was pay for shipping and I was going to just give it to them. They told me that they wanted to see what else was out there. It was a free ball for crying out loud. I always try to keep my communication with users who are interested in buying or selling as open as possible. I have also been lucky to have dealt with honest and trustworthy people. Every deal I have had on this site has been a good one. One other thing, I always put the person in my profile so others can see it. Good luck.

I wanted to bump this so more people could actually respond, and to add a little bit.  I was/am annoyed by people that ask for pics and then never respond.  That has occured quite a lot since my last post.  Thankfully, I have also had correspondance with a few users that were very friendly, open, and quick to respond.  However, I had one user that asked me for pics, then responded that he wasn't interested because he was quitting bowling.  Not 2 days after that message, I see his name show up frequently on the buy/sell/trade forum inquiring about balls other users have posted.  It's one thing to request pics and then disappear, but WHY LIE ABOUT NOT WANTING A DANG BALL?!?!?  I will be making my own private list of users who request pics and then don't respond, or who give b.s. reasons about not wanting something.  I will not deal with those people in the future.

IT's real simple,

I always say no reasonable offer will be refused.
Those that are serious will offer, sometimes  get a cheapy
that says what will you take.  Then I tell him, any reasonable offer.

As far as trhe pictures, that doesn't bother me.  It's like going to a store,
and asking the sles person to take something out of the case.  YO have the right to look and then return it.

I have been on here a long time.  If I see a ball I think I like and I don't see feedback on the person, I"ll ask for a picture.

Just remember people are buying things on here site unseen.  heck a picture can even be faked.

To me the person selling the equipment is the main selling point.  I don't buy too much equipment and use what I have until it falls apart.

I don't really care to see a picture.  Most of them aren't good enough to tell anything about the ball in the first place.

You either trust the seller or you don't.

I've been burned a couple of times on equipment I've sent out, never on equipment that is coming in.

Guess I'm a little more particular who I buy from than who I sell to.

As far as the guys asking for pictures, just keep a list.  If they ask for a picture and don't give a reply back, ignore them in the future.

yes, but the point is...I don't mind sending pics when asked, but please just tell me if you're not interested afterall. I like to see pics before the purchase if possible too, but if I don't like what I see...I will tell them no thanks!

I agree, the least someone could do is just say "thanks but no thanks".  That's MUCH better than saying nothing and leaving you hanging...

I got so frustrated selling on this site that I now just post stuff to Ebay, and let folks on this site know about it.

Stems back to a deal I did a few months ago - I had a raging inferno up for $15 - offered on this site. First one with the $$ got the ball. A guy asked me a question - I responded immediately. A few hours later, someone told me they wanted the ball, AND PAID VIA PAYPAL IMMEDIATELY. The original guy got quite nasty - felt that I should have sold the ball to him, since he asked about it first.
Nope. That's not the way it works.
Ebay protects all of us - and as a seller, if I want to pay the fees for that protection, great...

Yes, Raven, we have all been there. Not every person, here or anywhere else has respect or shows respect for their fellow human being. Courtesy is lost art. Everyone, in every aspect, deserves a certain minimal degree of respect UNTIL they show they do not deserve it, but then some people were just brought up by animals to be animals, not humans.

Deal with it and move on.

Give respect; if it's not returned, move on. If you get respect back, give it again. Act like a human and hope the entity on the other end returns what is given. You can do no more in this day and age.

I am somewhat new to this site, but I have learned one thing. What happened to buying a ball at a reduced price and plugging it and going on?

I hear what is the pin, what is the span, what is the cg, do you have a pic. How big is your p--. Sorry, lol

shipper50 -
Another reason - there are some bowlers/members who occasionally participate in PBA Regional events. There are restrictions on plugged balls for these events. If you buy a ball used that's fairly close to your grip and a with a layout you can use, you can still clear plug it and if the resulting plug material remains no greater than 5/8" outside the hole - it will still be "PBA legal". That may not be everyone's reason, but it is for some.

Just in the last few days, I have had 2 different well known and respected users that were interested in some of my equipment. They ask for pics and I take the time to snap some shots and describe the balls in good detail and then they never message me back to say I'll take it or no thanks or anything. Thats what pisses me off. Not the "do you have pics?" but the no contact afterwards.
