Local Deadbeat.
« on: June 16, 2004, 05:13:22 PM »
Sold some equipment to a guy who lives in the area so I boxed the stuff up, and went to meet him. He shows up with his girlfriend who looked 12 and was definately hung over. Then he begins by saying he wanted to try the equipment out before he bought it. The manager was nice enough to give him shoes, and a lane to bowl a few frames. Now these lanes were fried, and I think I saw sand on them they were so dry. The reason I said this was the mutant hooked off his hand and just slammed into the gutter. The manager saw this and moved us to the other side where the lanes were just dressed. The ball did as it was designed to do, and he knocked down some pins.

So we finally sit down, and he begins telling me how his equipment was stolen at his last duty station. Now before I even came to visit him we agreed to a price for the equipment. He wanted the Mutant, SuperFreak, and 3 ball roller. So I offer to GIVE him a white dot, towel, and some cleaner. Then after he is very happy about the gifts, I am giving him he said he doesn't have the money, and can he make payments. I said well how much do you have right now, and he said 20 dollars. I explained that I am selling this stuff because of a financial emergency, and that we agreed to a price, and I have sweetened the deal by offering a free ball, towel, and ball cleaner.

He gets up looks at me and said well thanks for nothing, and I said thanks for wasting my time. Then his girlfriend says "are you going to give him his free ball." I just ignored them, packed up my stuff and left.

It is 15, but its on its second drill. The ball was drilled for a customer who never came back in and paid for it.

I guess average joe here on ballreviews ain't so bad after all.

The chutzpah, to insist on trying out your stuff, knowing he had no intention of paying for it... amazing.

I have to ask... how old was this guy with the 12-year old girlfriend?  Say, speaking of 12-year olds, he didn't go by the name of Hamster, or Hampster, or Hammie, did he?

lol seadrive.

The guy was military, and looked to be in his earily to mid twenties. The girlfriend looked really young but she was driving, so I hope she is atleast 18.

I am sure you know your customers, but that is why I always get wholesale part of the price when I sell a ball.  Covers my arse.  Tell them after 30 days, it belongs to the shop, no refunds.

Sorry Toon if I confused you. The ball was purchased at a local pro shop, and the shops customer didn't return to pay for it. So I bought them at a discount.

Ahhh...  My mistake.  You got a good deal.  And I have had to do the same in the past.  I am in a rural comunity and selling a high dollar ball does not happen all that often.  I can't aford to loose even that small bit of profit.
