Traded my Oracle Vision to Andrew for his Animal. No surprises with this guy. He told me when he was going to ship the ball, and provided me a tracking number that day. The ball was in excellent condition, and exactly as described. Thanks for the trade!

Update: I rolled the Animal, and it had hardly any hook at all. I found it unbelieveable that a ball could be drilled so strong, pin next to ring, mb in the strong, and a thumb hole in the thumb quadrant, and still have less hook than my Ebonite Gyro. I took it in to my proshop thinking that because I am new to understanding drillings that I misinterpreted something. They took one look at the ball, and told me it was drilled for hook, but when they put it on the scale, they found there was so much bottom weight to the ball that it would not hook very much no matter how they drilled it. It does work well as a spare ball, though.

First of all, I don't believe that I did trade you a "dead ball" as you've described it, I had thrown this ball just before I agreed to trade it to you and had no problems getting this ball to hook. Could it be possible that the surface prep on the ball is not conducive to the lane conditions you were throwing it on? It's possible that the strong drill along with the 1000 grit (I believe it was 1000 grit when I traded it to you...) surface may be causing the ball to burn up and therefore appear to not hook. I guess I just don't understand how a ball that had a great amount of hook the last time I threw it could "die" from sitting in the proshop (note, the ball was under no extreme temperatures either) or from the transit with UPS.

Have you tried playing with the surface at all? Maybe a smoother grit (2000 or 4000 grit abralon) or a little bit of polish (not much, we don't want a marble here...) could do the trick, as I suspect it's burning up, and not really "dead"

Let it be known that there was no intent here to deceive, I was in no way sending a "dead" ball for a perfectly good Oracle Vision, I do have a fine reputation on here, I get busy at work sometimes which sometimes prevents me from getting to UPS right away, but I always get the ball out and always send out good equipment. All of my gear is well maintained, cleaned regularly, resurfaced if needed, etc.

I just really don't understand how this ball could have "died" in the timeframe from when I threw it last to when you've thrown it.

I've never heard of a bad thing said about Loose before.

Bottom weight?

PS I know of a lot of drillers who don't like their bowlers to buy used stuff from outsiders and often pooh pooh their purchases...particularly if you had been thinking of buying new from them but at the last second purchased something else!

Thanks for the good words

I was wondering the same thing about bottom weight as well, i've been drilling for about a year and a half (still just a little wet behind the ears...) and have never heard of a "dead ball" due to too much bottom weight, I was hoping some of the expert drillers on the site could chime in...we'll see...

luckylefty is dead on w/ the pro shop guys. We don't have
a pro shop in our center, but there's a few guys floating
around who drill in this area and all slam each other every
chance they get and think that they are the only ones who know
bowling balls. Also, I've yet to find one who has said anything
good about ordering a ball online as they would much rather you
the premium price and order from them.

I vouch for loose as well. Could it be that you are using a highly aggressive ball with a highly aggressive drilling on dirt and it is checking up at the arrows? I find it funny that people equate aggressive drillings with hook when what you really get is a ball with earlier roll. If you wanted go long and snap, perhaps redrilling and a super shine might be your solution.

I have to agree here... since static weights make no difference (or to satisfy the non-believers...little significant difference) whatsoever in ball reaction, it sounds as if either your proshop is incompentent or just blowing smoke up your a@@. I have experienced the same thing in our area as well, proshops bashing each other instead of actually trying to help their customers. Likely, as stated above, the surface of the ball just isn't matching up with the oil conditions and your style. Look into have the surface finished to a finer grit and having some polish applied. You will be amazed in the difference in reaction

I've bowled with Andrew for many years, and when
he threw this ball, it hooked a ton. Andrew knows
his stuff, and I've been drilling for over 10 years
now and this definetly sound like the drilling and
surface do not match your release or there is not
enough oil, so it appears dead because it used its
energy up to soon. Granted, knowing Andrew for years,
he can hook it off the lanes, and I watched him throw
that ball and it hooked. He did not deceive you in
any way ! Also, I have never heard the term "Bottom
Weight", but low top weight balls tend to roll earlier
and work better on wetter conditions. Lastly, I have
traded with Andy, know hundreds of guys who have dealt
with him, and I have never heard of one bad deal.
If it does not work, change the surface and or drilling.

I can vouch for Andy and the Animal also. Andy is a nice guy and has no reason to deceive anyone, especially on a ball sale or trade. My Animals reacted the same way as you described when I first drilled them up, until I matched the coverstocks and drill layouts with the correct lane conditions. The Animal is a very strong ball that may appear weak on the wrong lane conditions. If the ball has too much "bottom weight" or thumb weight, then I would think this would work better on OILER lanes by getting the ball into an earlier roll. Dry heads would cause this ball to burn its energy up early and tame down the hook.

But back to the moral of the story, Andy is a honest dude and I don't think he meant to trick you in anyway.

I apologize, obviously I was out of line. I recited what the people in the proshop told me, but I should have taken it elsewhere for a second opinion. I could not get the ball to hook. It wasn't for a lack of oil. The lanes were fresh in a heavy long pattern for league. I don't believe there was any intent to deceive, and with Andrews style differing from my own, I'm sure it hooked for him. I withdraw my comment about feeling decieved. The ball didn't work for me, I took it to the proshop, they gave me an explanation, and the ball was taken from me before I had the chance to play with it's coverstock. Not Andrew's fault!

We all over-react at times, I probably would have been just as upset as you, I thank you for doing the right thing and clearing my name, I do appreciate it, you're still good in my book! I'll vouch for Jared any day, ball came in better condition than he described it, I look forward to drilling and hopefully throwing it tomorrow morning.

For the Animal, I would check the Track forum and try contacting tenpinspro (Rick Leong, Track staffer, all around good guy, albeit a little short...lol) he is my Track contact for all things Track, he is VERY helpful with layouts, surface prep, reactions, etc., just don't ask him to grab anything off the top shelf for you (seriously, it's too easy Rick!

). Actually, the majority of the people on the Track board, from what I remember (haven't been over there in awhile) are very helpful, EXCALIBER (Carl), Rev_O (Nagy), Clintdaley, etc. I'm sure they would be more than willing to help

Good catch as it would seem 2 separate users here purchased a 'dead' ball from Andrew. Wonder if the user is the same....or perhaps **sarcasm on** Andrew is pushing countless numbers of 'dead' Animals on this site to many different users!!

To clear the air on this one, no, I use two separate screen names. Bowling Barista and Tony Banks. I will delete that post to clear any confusion among users who haven't read this post, and try to be more careful with my words. It was one ball that didn't work out for me, he hasn't had a repeat experience with any other person that I'm aware of.
