With information that this person is "selling" merchandise on the internet (who knows if he even has the product), there are laws to protect individuals against fraud. I have mentioned before that a lack of people willing to prosecute individuals that "scam" make it more inviting for others to do so.
If more cases of "fraud", "theft", etc were perused for prosecution, perhaps it would lessen the "attempts".
Besides "internet fraud", there is also the U.S. Postal authority to involve.
Lastly, as stated by others, beware of sending to someone that is so new to the boards, and with no profile, history, or interactions with others.
Personally, I would be more than willing to send references from local pro shop, my driller, my ebay feedback, etc.
