Rudy REVS Jr. = proceed with caution
« on: September 04, 2003, 07:54:18 AM »
SO, after 3 days of comunications with him & a deal that was confirmed twice, he pulls out of the deal 12 hours before shipment. I had 2 other deals in the works, but told them I couldn't do it since I was dealing with Rudy. They both since have found other deals. I will list the communications & you be the judge, but I just wanted to let everyone know, he's the kind of young guy that can by iffy trading with.

First message:
quote:
From:  Rudy REVS Jr
Received:  9/2/2003 9:51:47 PM
Subject:  Want to trade for Igniter
Message:  I have a silver diamond with the pin right above the ring finger 15# nib. will trade for free except for shipping. If u pay shipping i will gladly trade for u

I followed up with:

quote:

I'm very intrested, just wondering, if it's NIB, how can the pin be above the ring finger?

I can also give you any other info on the igniter you might want.

BJ

At this point I was cautious, but was going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

quote:

MY fault. I thought NIB meant the condition the ball was in. sorry

i would still like to trade though

We agreed to trade & that I would pay him back for shipping since I was getting a little "better end of the deal" & the $$ should offset it.I then asked if he accepted Paypal & he responded:

quote:
Sorry i do not accept paypal. i will accept a check though. not sure about the span but the pin is 2.5in. and it has about 15 games on it. I have a medium size hand so we should match up ok. I live in Tupelo, MS.

I then sent him this PM to try & "close" the deal.

quote:

So would it be ok to do a swap then?

I'll send you my igniter & a money order or check for the cost of shipping, at the same time that you send the silver diamond?

You would have to front the $$ for the shipping, but I would be sure to send enough along with my ball to cover it.

I've found that's usually the safest way to do ball trades on here, to both send at the same time & make sure you get each other the tracking numbers on the same day. That way if one doesn't send a tracking number in a day or so, you can put the shipment on hold.

Let me know if you think that would work & we can swap addresses & plan on shipping tomorrow or friday.

At this point he sent me a message saying he now was wondering if I could include a little more $$ for redrilling & such. Here was my response:

quote:
I dont have enough money for that. That's why I wanted to trade with someone. As it is I'm going to be paying at least $15 for shipping the igniter to you & another $15 to cover your shipping. The max I can make out a check to you for is $25.00. That's about $10.00 more than what shipping should cost.

I'm sorry, That's all I've got.

He responded it was OK.

quote:
That is fine i think we will try to ship on friday or saturday .
How do we exchange the tracking numbers and how do we put shipments on hold

I responded with my address & that I would ship on Friday during lunch & also some more info on shipping with UPS & NOT using USPS.

Here's his edited response:
quote:
I go to school during the day so i will be able to ship it after i get out of schoool friday.

My email addy is south_65@msn.com
my phone number is 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx
Ship to this addy
xxxx Redland Sarepta Rd
Houlka Ms, 38850

I then got a message asking this:

quote:
Is the ball already drilled???
did u use it for dry lanes or for oily
does the ball have any scratches or nicks on the coverstock
also how many games does it have on it????

Mind you, all of this info was in the original trade thread, but I responded anyway.
quote:
The ball has only beee drilled once. Span & such were listed in the thread on the forum. It has finger grips & thumb slug. Drilled pin over bridge & just right of center line. CG kicked right about 45 degrees. Commonly known as a 10:30 drilling.

Used it for Medium conditions with good backends, that's where it really excelled.

Very few small scratches, nothing more than expected for 30 games & nothing that wont come out with a light resurfacing. I would actually reccommend a little bit of polish to bring the shine back.

Only 30 games on it.

If you're having second thoughts about trading please let me know now. I'm planning on shipping tomorrow.

He Responded:

quote:
No i am still goin to ship tomorrow.

Then tonight I get this:
quote:
I HAVE DECIDED TO KEEP MY SILVER DIAMOND. MY DAD WANTS ME TOO KEEP IT SO I GUESS I WILL. I AM SORRY FOR THE INCONVIENCE.

Moral of the story, people can really jerk you around. Deal with him with caution.

Oh, and I still have that igniter available if anyone is intrested.

A friend of mine might be interested.  I'll have him check with his dad before I have him get in touch with you....lol.

Too funny.

I'll be sure to make sure my daddy signs off on any deal as well.

I have to admit to doing this a couple times myself.  Of course, I was under the misconception both times that I'd have the money, and something would happen.  The first time with drillwizard was my fault, it was during the summer and I called a bunch of times and never got ahold of him (my work schedule conflicted, and there was also the time zone differences) and was kind of glad, cause I ended up having to fix a tire with the money I would have spent on the ball.  The last time was last week with alien, I thought I was going to have the money, and it fell through again.  So the moral of the story is make sure your stuff's together before you make a deal on here.  I have had some great transactions on here, however, most notably with Nicanor, pdj300 and confucius (although I know I'm leaving another one or two out).

Jeffrevs,

I totally agree. I have had kids (and a couple of adults) from this site email me about stuff I had for sale, seem very interested and then tell me they don't have the money afterall, a total waste of my time. I had one user ask me to wait 3 weeks until he got his allowance to pay for a bag I had for sale.

This has probably happened to all of us at one time or another. But it is not only "kids" that do this.

About a month ago had a person {adult} that wanted to get a ball I had, after 16 messages,  2 " I give you my word" I will pay with Pay Pal when I get home from work, then says go ahead and sell to some one else. So you can't blame the kids for all of this.

pnj1967,

good point and thats happened to me as well. I did my self back oput of one deal along time ago because I just had a gut feeling the guy was not on the up and up. Sometimes you have to message back and forth a few times to see if they are legit or not. Most of the time I am right about the person.

I guess you really don't understand.

If he wanted more than just the ball & shipping, then he shouldn't have made the offer in the first place.

Even after I said I couldn't offer more than $25.00 over, he AGREES to the offer, then backs out at the last minute.

Mind you, HE was the one that made this offer:

Makes me kind of angry seeing these kinds of posts.  I am 15, but I have yet to make an offer on a bowling ball on here even if I am interesting, since usually I am broke.

But I really hate seeing idiotic kids ruin it for people like me who might want to buy or trade a ball on here in the future.

I guess if I end up really wanting to get a ball off this site from someone, I'll have my dad contact them and make sure they know they are dealing with someone who is going to go through with the transaction.
