Steve Nagy AKA Shootin300 AKA Steveo300 rates a thumbs down
« on: August 31, 2003, 07:16:34 PM »
I have dealt with this user in the past with no ill will pointed anywhere. However, a recent transaction (or lack of completion on his part, has pushed me to let everytone know....

He wanted the used Sonic X I had listed on my used page. He asked if I would consider a trade. I said OK, what do you have? One of the balls HE OFFERED was a NIB Too Hot with good specs I said Yeah, I'd swap the Sonic X for the Too Hot. No problem. We agreed to ship within ht next 2 days, which I did.

Then I receive a message asking if I'd take a used Too Hot and $10 instead. I said no, we agreed on the NIB Too Hot. He said OK, he'd ship within the next day or so.

About 2 days later I get a message on here that he is now telling me that the thumb on the Sonic X was plugged and not once drilled as I stated. I sold the ball NIB to PChee and he then swapped it to Cooksey and Cooksey swapped it back to me. I didn't touch the ball, Cooksey said all he had his guy do was install a slug to alter the span and pitches and PChee just drilled the ball (no thumb slug).

Guess what I have yet to receive some 2 weeks later??? You are correct Dr. Watson...my Too Hot is nowhere to be found! He also now refuses to answer messages sent to him.

Oh yeah and it isnt like it takes 3 weeks for the ball to get here either...he lives in OH...so it should take a maximum of 3 days to get here.

His contact info is....
Steve Nagy
5520 Main Ave
Ashtabula, OH 44004

If Steve comes through with the NIB Too Hot with the specs he promised, I will retract this post and post a positive one.

Yep, I'm special.  I actually know him really well, his wife and I are really good friends, and I'm his stepdaughter's unofficial bowling coach, BUT that's just in response to your little jab, I'm not starting another rant.  And I was typing my response while several others had posted theirs.  Wait, why am I defending myself . . ?

Now that it is 12:41 AM here and I have finally cleaned out my message box, I have a few things to say...

#1...I sent all correspondence to Shootin 300 because that is the screenname he used to purchase the ball and messaged me on the 14th of August that he had received it. Now magically all of the saved messages I got from him have been changed to Stevo300. He agreed to ship the Too Hot the next day...that would be the 15th but the Too Hot should have been shipped even before he got the Sonic X...Breach of agreement #1 Then he comes back a day or 2 later and says "will you take a used Too Hot and $10 instead"...looks to me as though he was already having 2nd thoughts. I told him no and then he said he would ship the Too Hot the next day. I said OK. Breach of agreement #2.

#2...it was not until I posted this post that he CHANGED HIS SCREENAME back to Steveo300. Kind of fishy from what I can see. I still ahev all record of the messages he sent to me and I believe that Bruce can get me copies of the messages I sent to him that were UNANSWERED.

#3...The Sonic X was NOT plugged and was in excellent condition. Had Steveo bothered to remove the thumb slug, he would have seen guess what? no plug in the front edge of the thumbhole!!! But did he ever do this? NO!!! PChee has attested to his knowledge of the ball, now if we'd ask Cooksey24 to tell us what his pro shop guy did to the ball, we would be able to find out.

#4...Steve says that he has returned the ball via USPS Priority Mail. That should take a maximum of 3 days. If this is the case, I would have received a notice in my mailbox and a phone call stating I had a package to pick up because USPS in Owego does NOT send packages of this size and weight with their carriers. I have not received anything and we all have proof that he did in fact receive it so he owes me a ball or monetary compensation.

#5...As stated previously, if I had been notified that the ball was being returned or that he was dissatisfied with the deal, we could have worked something out. Does this sound like a dissatisfied customer???The last message I got from him was:

Subject:  sonic x
Message:  Doug,

I got the ball today. Thanks.

One question though. On your site, you list the ball as no plug work, but the thumb has been plugged one time. Just wondering what was up with that.

I'll be shipping the too hot tomorrow.

Sounds like to me that Doug is getting screwed in this deal. I have known Doug for the past couple years and he is nothing more then a stand up guy. He would never cheat anyone or sell something that is damaged or altered in any way other then what was agreed upon. He has never done anything to say otherwise. I think compensation is needed...either the price of the ball or the ball itself should be returned ASAP. Im not trying to stick up for Doug, Im just telling the truth...He is nothing more then a stand up guy that wouldnt cheat a soul, and as they say, "What goes around comes around."

Erm, dont get me wrong but, WHAT THE HECK DOES IT MATTER ABOUT A SMALL PEICE OF PLUGGING??!?! Im assuming your a right hander here, but if it is on the right hand side of your thumb that part of the ball isnt going to touch the lane, unless you have the WEIRDEST track anyone has ever seen, thus not effecting the performance of the ball????????

If there was a truckload of plugging like 2 sets of finger plugging right where you wanted your ball to be tracking through, then yea, thats an issue. But from what i saw there is maybe plugging that is a third the width of a thumb hole, no big deal. Whats your beef with the little bit of plugging anyway???

And like everyone says, post a copy of the shipping receipt and this will all blow over. But so far you have chosen to blatently ignor all requests for that. Is it just that you dont want to help yourself, or you cant? Pipe up with the receipt dude, give us some proof.

Good luck and high scoring

IMO

This all started when steveo tried to back out of the original deal by offering a different ball.  You two had an agreement, and as "MEN" The agreement should stick.  If Stevo didn't like the ball that Doug sent he should have just sent it back, with an explanation.  UNLESS of course stevo did some modifications to the ball.

Also like Erock666 said sometimes it might be hard to tell if the ball was plugged, especially if it is just a small piece that is left.

I have delt with Doug plenty of times, and I know that he is a good guy.  I have bought new and used stuff from him and the used stuff has always been as he describes.  I have also Talked with Stevo300 afew times.  Doesn't seem like a bad guy.  Just seems to be a small misunderstanding.

I also think that in transactions on this board that the person that initiates the deal needs to be the one that makes the first move ie shipping and payment.

As a pro shop operator, I'll say that it's really hard to miss plug once you know what you're looking for.  If Doug says it hasn't been plugged, it would take a really keen eye to find some plug on that ball, especially in such an obvious location, seeing as how plugging the thumb and moving it slightly is fairly common.

UPDATE.......

1. He told me his wife shipped the ball via parcel post, not priority mail so that's why it's taking so long although I parcel posted a ball to France and it took 2 weeks. 2+ weeks from OH to NY?????

2. He has contacted me and has agreed to ship me a ball if I do not receive the Sonic X by Friday.

Now what do you guys think is fair for a ball to accept?

Since I am out the ball we originally agreed on, I think he should ship the ball that we agreed on in the trade.

He says the Sonic was not worth the ball he offered me eventhough in the message I quoted above he said he would send it tomorrow. So I ask....what do you guys think is fair?

My stance is that I either:
1. Get my ball back plus my $8 in shipping
2. Get the Too hot we agreed on
3. I get the $50 plus the $8 shipping I had the ball listed for on my used page.

Any opinions???

Doug, you should get the ball the two of you originaly agreed on as that is what the deal was to begin with.

You have 3 options you are willing to take. I say any of the three would be good. he just needs to do it NOW.

Hope you get it resolved soon!  This is a lot of headache for a 50.00 ball.

Got to hand it to the Pro Shop owners... Have to put up with these kind of people. I couldn't do it. I have seen people buy and have drilled big hooking balls and they won't hook for them because they throw 25MPH right up the middle of the lane in heavy oil, and cuss the Pro Shop guy out because he didn't drill the ball right!! Sheesh!!

Deal was made here on BR and I think it comes down to Doug warning us all of the problems.  Does it mean you are a bad guy no.  Does it mean you are a good guy no.  It means that the deal that was agreed upon did not go correctly and the people here who may deal with either one of you have the right to know what happened so they can draw their own conclusions.

I think that if everyone was telling you that you were in the right instead of the responses you are getting you would be perfectly willing to continue talking about it here.  Either way it seems like the deal was agreed upon and executed on one end.  If you are not happy with the ball that was sent you have to deal with that after the fact.  I think you got into trouble from the start when you did not ship when you said you would.  You didn't want to go through with the deal so you kept hedging your bet hoping Doug would say forget it.

Bottom line Steveo you made a deal.  Make it right.  IF you don't want the ball get it to him and get him the money he spent shipping it to you.  If you can't do that then you owe the man the original ball from the deal or at the least the money.  You can't go to a store take the product and not pay.  That would be shoplifting.  YOu pay for the item and if you are unhappy with it once home you take it back or work out some exchange.

Hello All,
Sorry I haven't posted in reply to any of this but I just found out about it today. I am the one who had the sonic x. As Doug stated I got the ball from him but he had gotten it from pchee and had him ship it directly to me. The ball was in excellent shape as stated. I took the ball to my driller and he stated that all he had to do was slug the thumb to fit my hand. So I left the ball with him. I picked the ball up a couple of days later and it looked fine to me. I didn't notice any plugging and never ask for any to be done. I hate it that this has become such a big deal for doug. I have done a couple of trades with him and everything went smoothly. As a matter of fact he got an element from me at the same time as the sonic. I hope everything works out for him. If I can be of any help hear just let me know.

Thanks, cooksey
