Went 40x4.5x40 on my Eruption Pearl looking for an option to use later in a block for when the lanes dry out. My bag is predominantly made up of stronger pieces to compliment my roll and the typically slicker patterns I see, but I haven't drilled a drier lane ball that I have wanted to put in my bag in some time.
I didn't have the original and haven't thrown too many Columbia balls but was looking forward to seeing the return of the Resurgence core.
The medium strength cover with a medium strength core gave me some real easy length with a strong but not overly flippy move at the breakpoint. I have been able to square up to my target and use speed in the track, but also still see plenty of motion down lane to carry from deep inside once the lanes dried up. My carry has been best when I have been softer with my speed and trust the ball out to the dry (particularly on balls that see the friction early), although I have had some success squaring up with more speed - either way, this ball wants to see some friction before it makes its move.
By watching other videos, I expected to see a very round smooth shape akin to a Brunswick Hero, but in my hands this ball was stronger downlane than advertised. I see this ball as being a bit weaker, preferring medium to medium/dry lanes and really liking to see some dry boards.
Compared to other balls in my bag, I have the Eruption Pearl as a 3/2 weaker than my GB4 pearl and a board or two weaker than my Stellar. My local house is fairly slick in the heads and the burn can get a bit cliffed so I have since removed the polish with a beat up 2k pad. This is the weakest ball that I need in league and it serves a purpose as an option to get easy length and a strong down lane motion for medium-drier lanes.
