Let me start off by saying that I'm not the biggest Columbia fan, but I have slightly changed my mind w/ my purchase of this ball

I've had my Hyde for about 3months now

drilled 5x4 pin above fingers cg below index finger and kicked out to the right a bit.
Layed out to be a down and in ball, or a small swing shot.

Lately this has been the only ball I use through a whole set of games.
With this ball I usually stand 12board and throw up the 4board. With the layout, the ball has incredible length to hold this line, and the break is a smooth arc that doesnt overreact.
When the lanes break down a bit, I'll move to 17board, and throw to the 12board, a tight line that holds fairly well w/ this ball for me.

The length is great and the arc is soo smooth.

The hit of this ball is incredible even on light hits.
I love the messengers i get with this ball, and another thing is Brooklyn, I have carried every single time I have gone brook(99.9% positive that i have struck on every brook shot) yea a brook isnt all that, but a strike is a strike.

For me this was a worthy purchase, and maybe i'll give columbia another shot.

Drilling:  pin between the A and B positions, CG at about 4:30, pin out = 4 inches.  Box finish.

Columbia had me with the Messenger and it's keeping me with the Hyde.  A very controlable, powerful ball.  I bowl on fairly heavy oil, forgiving between 5 and 12 but out of bounds past 5.  This ball works best straight down the track for me (probably a product of the drilling; a more leverage-type drilling would let you play farther inside ... I know this from the Messenger).  The coverstock gives a good backend reaction even with the more arcing drilling.

I'm thinking about getting one drilled more leverage than this one is.  Seems to be a very versatile ball.

Hi ! I just got my 14 lb hyde like 2 months ago and its just GREAT !
I'm a medium-low rpm bowler and used to be using Columbia's
- Scout Reactive and decided to upgrade to something better
and so i got this ! From my opinion , this ball really works well
on oily lanes. It doesn't really have much problems making a
recovery and still hits the pocket with power !
Lol , on dry lanes i was standing "overboard" and practically
"tossing" my ball at the 4th arrow.
I'd reccommand this ball to anyone who wants to get a ball that
works cool on oily lanes , and makes your friends go "wow!" on
dry lanes.

My Hyde is 15 lbs, drilled fairly strong with a 4 x 3 pattern, with the pin just above my ring ringer.  I’ve kept the box surface, which is about 600 grit according to Columbia.  I bought this ball to replace a Columbia Power Surge when I decided to step down from 16 lb. equipment to 15 lbs.  The Hyde turned out to be stronger than I thought, still giving me excellent length with a strong backend.  

My reaction with the Hyde is not quite a skid/flip but it is a very strong arc, especially when I start moving inside on typical league conditions when the oil in the heads is beginning to break down.  This ball works well on fresh conditions when I can square up a little bit and play in the track area.  It also works well when the lanes begin to break down and I can move inside and follow the oil line.  This ball is giving me excellent carry.  It revs up pretty early giving me a good read on my breakpoint reaction.

I’m using the Hyde on medium to medium heavy oil conditions.  On heavy oil this ball just won’t turn the corner.  On medium oil and on short lane patterns this ball gives me excellent recovery.  When the pattern is longer or heavier I can play the track area or move outside or play down and in.  Versatility is a big plus with this ball and if I can get it to the pocket the Hyde gives me very good carry.  

The one down side I see to this ball is that when the lanes begin to break down and I don’t pick up on it quickly enough, I find out the hard way when the ball just starts to move even more aggressively at the breakpoint and snaps across the headpin.  This also happened a couple of times when I just let up on my speed a bit.  The Hyde isn’t really that speed sensitive but it can be when the backends are pretty strong.

 My last couple of outings with this ball I’ve been able to read my reaction a little better and avoid open frames (as in splits) by moving inside and finding a little more oil.  With just a few games under my belt I’m finding the Hyde fairly easy to read and adjust with.  

This ball isn’t a big boomer with a “Hook in a Box” rating, but it’s plenty strong.  It’s very versatile and it’s my 1st ball out of the bag.  The cover is also very versatile.  Just polished my Hyde to about 1000 grit from the box cover 600 grit as the shot at the house I bowl opened up the last couple of weeks.  At 600 the Hyde started to move a little too early.  With a little polish I was able to delay my breakpoint and bring my reaction back into my comfort zone again.  I think a little scuffing with a scotchbrite would also work well if I needed a little more surface.

In short, this ball is working well for me.  I don't have any ratings on this ball because my rating would not be your rating.  To put it concisely, this ball is excellent on medium conditions and versatile enough to range into the medium oil and medium dry with some adjustments to the coverstock.

Get your Hyde while they are still around!

Drilled 5x5, pin over ring finger. Left in out of box condition. Shot I used it on was medium oil with OB outside of 7. What impressed me most was the ease that the ball made it through the heads. Even on shots that I let up a bit, the ball never jumped early. Nice smooth arc even off the dry. Ball hit hard, but didn't over hit like some balls out today. Carry was excellent to say the least, in my first night in league with it, I threw 32 out of 36. If you are looking for a great medium condition ball that is very controllable without losing hitting power, this is it. I would love to shine one to use on lighter conditions to see how it works.

i got this ball about a year ago. it's a good ball for medium oil. it goes long and has a nice backend reaction. it's very controlable and readable. it readies the lane pretty well. this ball is forgiving sometimes. this ball hits like a ton of bricks. on a scale on 1-10 i give it a 8.

One of my friends gave this to me Saturday. Fortunatley it fit me perfectly so i threw it as soon as i got it.

This ball is the perfect medium oil ball for sure. This ball, with the drilling goes really long, but comes back with a strong sudden change in direction that is absolutely amazing. This ball needs to be in the heads, though. I've played boards 15-8, 20-10, 18-10 with it, and it never leaves me disappointed. The ball is not good to play down and in with, its got too strong of a core (2.48 RG) to play straight up 10, or 8-5, 10-8, etc.

I love the dynamics of it especially for playing the deep lines. With a medium differential, it is good for medium conditions with dry backends, and never overhooks, but still has a strong move to the pocket. 10/10 for this ball.
