I bought this ball a couple of days ago. I bowled 3 games on it. It didn't react the way I thought it would. I was told that it would have a lot of backend, and from what I see is a lot of sliding and very little hook. I'm kind of wandering if I should have purchased the Icon300 instead.

drilled with cg out 1/2 in right, pin above 1in. and to right of ring finger

got this thinking it would react like my icon, only a little more movment....well, i was wrong.  it does have great length, its just too sharp of a turn to the pocket then what i wanted.  well, after sanding it down i could use it playing 5 and 6 arrow lofting the gutter...but having to do that all the time gets tireing...so i pluged it all up to try somthing new

(the pin is 4 in. above the cg.)

now the pin's under and between my fingers, with the cg lined directly right of it 4 in out. with a big weight hole through the cg.

lets just say i eliminated a lot of the hook.  i've polished this and the only thing its coming out on now is dry sport shots.  it has very little movement now, but when you get on drier shots, and play up the rail, its a killer, so i'm gonna keep it around in case i run into problems with dry conditions

I see others have had the same problem with this ball that I did.  The ball works flawlessly for 30 games or so, then just dies.  I absoluetly loved my Icon2 when I first got it.  Backend hooked like crazy, predictable though.  Then, kapoot.  Bye bye backend.  Had the ball sanded a wee bit, then polished up.  That helped a little, but no where near what I had out of the box at first.  I ended up switching to the Icon 300.  Now there's a strong ball, but that's another review.

good luck,

This ball is one of the worst balls i have ever thrown. Its ok for about 20 games then it is dead after those 20 games u might as well just use it for a 7 or 10 pin ball. This ball is such a disgrace to the original icon.

everybody is right the backend dies after like 30 games. I use now just as a medium oil ball right up the 3rd arrow from the middle and it slow comes back

Oil pattern: doesn't matter

Ball: 15# Pin 3.5"
Drilling: 5" X 5", balance hole at PAP
Check my profile for player stats.

Let's start out to stay I got this ball while I needed a ball for dry conditions. I must say that this ball with it's drílling is just right for me and the conditions. After the lanes have broken down and my Freak and money don't get the job done this baby comes out of the bag.

I play this ball from about 18 throwing 5-7 and this ball goes down the lanes fairly far because of it's drilling and then takes off. When it gets any near to what us bowlers call a pocket shot, they're dead, all ten of them.

I never had ball that throws like this one, in fact it's so impressive two other people on my team have also purchased one.

One word of caution, because of it's compact weight block this was uncontrollable at first, until I took out all the side weight.

Rating: Without a doubt an easy 9 out of 10.

24 yeras old, and a first year bowler, started about this time last year.  Uncle is a great bowler, taught me the basics of the release and proper technique, blah blah blah.  So it's time to get a ball, he says Icon II is the one to get.  So that's what I get.  Struggle for 4-5 months with it, sometimes uncontrollable hook, sometimes better off with a lane ball.  About 2 months ago started in my first league, medium/heavy oil.  Go throug the first 10 weeks with a 168 average.  Nothing spectacular, maybe 1-2 600 series.  All the sudden I start understanding something with my hand, next thing I know I"m playing 3rd board and killing the pocket.  Last 6 weeks with the ball, series of 636, 719, 690, 697, 710, and 699.  Average is up to 192.  Had games of 279/268/257/251 in there.  I don't know what people are talking about with no back end.  Had this ball stripped once, and it hooks more now than when I started.  I love it, best ball I could have purchased.  Already stopped making them from what I've heard. Looking for another comparable ball, any suggestions?

Great ball only if u polish it every month b/c the backend dies if u don't. But i do have good news... I shot 279 with this ball. If u shine it the skid/snap comes back. I've been thinking of sanding up to have it take on a little more oil. Well when i get it sanded i will tell you how good the ball takes the oil.

well its been about a month since i sanded it to about 1200. With a top coat of polish this ball has been unbelievable. Compared to the compound finish this ball starts up a little early but i have found the hitting power has increased and i carry alot more on less then perfect shots. The backend is not as much as the first 30 games but thats my fault for not cleaning it.

Value: 10 cuz i won it in a raffle
Hitting power: 9.5 cuz i don't always carry the ten pin
Light oil: 3.0 when you encounter dry this particle is done leave it in the bag
medium oil: 9.0 Great no problems on this condition
Heavy oil: 7.0 the backend is really useless normally you only get an arc which doesn't carry a lot but still you can score if you play down and in

Im not a columbia tec or particle fan at all. The ball was cheap and wanted to try it out. Pin above ring finger with the 5in cg swung out an inch. The ball simply dies out. Started great doing what i wanted it to do. Dull finish with a late arc. Then it lost its hook, and lost its spot in the bag. It carries...its consistent, but columbia particle is not where it should be. I dont know where people find the ones that last. I hear and see and bowl with one that goes for 20 games, and dies out. Never again.

This ball flat out hooks.  It needs oil to perform, and without it, energy is lost and the ball looks bad.  This is an extremely aggressive ball, and Skeglesswonder, unless you're bowling on a frozen pond, your attempt at belittling this ball has made you look bad.

I picked this ball up from a friend that had used it for a while, it is a great ball i am happy i did get it. Everyone said that it dies, not mine i don't know if other dies but this one will not give up. It does need oil. This is a great ball for a person who loves back ends. Great ball!!!!

I picked up this ball and an Icon 300 from a bowler who used for a lot of games, had to be at least 300 or more.

Right Handed, 16#, CG in midline of the grip, Pin off to the right of the ring finger

Have no idea why people think the ball dies out after 20-30 games, becasue this ball HOOKS. needs medium to medium-dry lanes, though, ball does not hook in oil at all. It's also pretty versatile. I've been using it for 3 pins, 10 pins, anything on the right side.

Great Ball

This a pretty good ball. Goes further down the lane to create the snap you like to have. Bowled a 300 with this one.

Sorry i had to put this one back on the shelf. It got chewed up in a ball return in jr. gold, so i had to get it replaced. I sanded the ball down a lot. This ball went threw the oil with no problem, and once it hit the backend it took off. The ball was amazing. Definetly my heavy oil ball
