Likes: This was a great choice for Columbia's first high end ball. Very versatile with an aggressive reaction even in the heaviest oil. Rolls smooth and hits like a truck.

Dislikes: May start to early out of the box on most house conditions. After we shinned it, it got good length and a nice smooth arcing backend.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a couple of the new Columbia balls a few days before their release. Like many of you I was excited to see what Ebonite was going to do with the Columbia 300 brand. I wanted to try out the Resurgence first since it was the new high end ball.

The ball I got had a pin of 3.5" and a top weight of right at 3oz. I knew I was going to want to try it how it is out of the box and shinned so I picked a layout that would suit both finishes. I put the pin between my bridge and the cg about 1.5" to the right of my center of span. My PAP is 4 3/4" right and 1/2" up so this drill would get me pretty good length.

I tried the Resurgence with the box finish first. It comes from the factory with a 1000 grit abralon finish on it. The very first pitch I threw with this ball told me I had a monster in my hands. I had to play about 7 boards left of where I usually start to get this ball to stay out of the face. I noticed right away that this ball read the midlane very well and still had enough energy left to carry the ten. I moved right and increased my speed a little and it held pocket and destroyed the rack.

After bowling 4 or 5 games with it sanded I took it in the shop and polished it with the Ebonite Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish but I didn't change the surface grit. With it shinned I got about 5 more feet before it started to grab in the midlane and the backend picked up a little too. With it shinned I was able to move in deep and loop it and it still had enough pop to carry.

Overall I was very impressed with Columbia's first offering under the new management. The Resurgence is a very versatile ball that can be changed to fit any type of shot that you may encounter. Hopefully this is the first of many of great balls to come from the new Columbia 300.

1st 2 games with ball on Viper pattern in summer PBA experience league;
ball made a really big move, once it was through the heads, my fault for not making proper adjustments in speed for the shorter pattern. Once I made the right speed adjustment this ball was able to hold its path with out really jumping through he nose.
Very even move throughout the path of the ball, no over jumping, ball just keeps going. Very impressed with the how this ball reacts once it decides to go. Didn't notice any deflection once it hit the pins.

Last night in our first night of fall season, this ball on a house shot is a monster, where there were guys watching there balls drift farther down the lane as the carry down took over, this ball was on the same path all night. Only move I made was a 2 board ( feet only right) adjustment. I am going throw more games with this ball this weekend and will update my review. Did make all my 10 pins last night ( which is always a bonus) and there wasn't a weak 10 pin all night.

So for the first night in league, 711= 247-237-227, being the league secretary the first night of bowling is always no fun. But, I am very impressed with this ball and it not only made it's way into my bag, it is also the first ball I will pull out no matter where I go.

I personally don’t like to give layout  to copy due to the variable of Bowlers roll patterns
That has  developed in  today game.
But I was impressed with the reaction, So I will .
In dull form it still gave me great  midlane reaction,
With out the spark you expect from a dull ball usually,
The reaction remind me of the Brunswick Ultra & The Scorching Inferno’s
But a lot more back end,
If you liked that reaction of the ball mention   remember to add more back end boards to your game- ball for ball
Mid lane were smooth even as the ball roll into a pocket  with continuous hook through the pins  punishing  pin power.
With a new core. and with a new coverstock.
 The Resurgence is the now standard for this industry for heavier volumes of oil.
This ball is strong through  any pattern and Excellent job by Ebonite’s  First Columbia release;
The cover stock & core could be the Best thing going today,

Let me first say that I am a beginner, I've only been bowling for the past 9 months so take that into consideration when reading this.
I am a RH player, I have a medium to high track, & I throw the ball around 14-15mph with above average rev rate. I consider myself a tweener.
I also own & use a Total NV & Tropical Storm. I have relatives who use a No Mercy, Black Widow Pearl & Action Max. So I have 1st hand visual experience with these balls as well.

My ball is 15#, 2-3" pin with 2.25oz top weight. I went with the recommended #1 layout with the pin above my ring finger.

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love this ball. I've been using this ball since 8-21-07 & there is nothing bad I can say about this ball. I bought this ball to handle heavy oil (a condition my TNV couldn't cope with) & it has not let me down. This ball will turn like its got cleats on in the heaviest of oil. With my TNV I had to play outside lines to find dry so the ball could hook. Which would result in an occasional gutter ball due to my accuracy. With my Resurgence I now can play inside lines & this, along with my improving play has pretty much eliminated that problem.

The next thing that I noticed over the others, is it has very little to no deflection upon impact. It just keeps right on truck'n through the rack & creates pin action that is ridiculous. Watching it hit the rack is like watching a pop can being crushed.

Another thing is, the ball is very forgiving. I can hit any one of 3 boards at the arrows & this ball will find the pocket & 9 times out of 10, carry.

The last thing is what I pick at my brother over. He uses the above Hammer balls. I think it's funny that Hammer has the slogan that "nothing hits like a Hammer". Well I've seen their best products in action & they are both good balls but in my opinion anyone who thinks a Hammer ball hits harder than anything else on the market, hasn't used a Columbia ball. Both of those Hammer balls have nothing on my TNV & my TNV is no comparison to the Resurgence or my dad's Action Max. The Resurgence has so much energy at impact it's surprising that it doesn't splinter the pins.

Prior to getting this ball I was pretty much a 170-180 avg bowler using my TNV. After using the Resurgence for about 3 weeks, I feel I'm beginning to get familiar with it & the results have been 600 series the past 3 trips out in league play. That's real good for me. I know that I'm still the same 170-180 avg bowler but with this ball I believe my scores are inflated by 20-30 pins because the ball hits with so much energy that I'm getting carries that I should not be getting. Once again I'll say, a very forgiving ball.

So to sum it up. If you're looking for a heavy oil ball. You will not be disappointed with this ball. I highly recommend it to anyone.

This ball is one of the best balls I have ever thrown. It does exactly what they say it will do. I have owned a bunch of Columbia 300 balls and I have never had a ball continue to hook all the way through the pins in to the pit, like this ball. My last Columbia ball before this one was the Action Max, which I really liked as well, but I didn't know what I was missing until I bought the Resurgence. I went to a house where they always have a lot of oil, and even with my Action Max I had to play down and in. So I thought I would compare the two at that house. To my surprise the Action max was no match for the Resurgence. The Resurgence hooked a good 5 to 7 boards more than the action max. I was able to swing it out with the Resurgence in a house that I have never been able to swing out in. I only have one complaint and one warning about this ball. That is DON"T EVER I REPEAT DON'T EVER SAND THIS BALL. I bowled with this ball for about 2 months and I went to Reno for a Tournament and I wanted it to be in prime condition for the Tournament, so I took a 1000 grit Sanding pad to it on my ball spinner, and then bowled in the tournament. I don't have that much hand but the ball was too aggressive to play down and in but not enough to play a swing out game. So after the morning session was over I took the ball down to a 500 grit sand for the evening session. It worked pretty well. However when I got back home I knew that the 500 grit would be to much for my house shot, so I polished it and then took it down to a 1000 grit. And that is when the problems started to happen. In about a week I noticed that the ball didn't seem to hook as much as it used to. I first thought that the house put out a heavier amount of oil, but I took out my Total NV which never even came close to hooking as much as my Resurgence and guess what the Total NV hooked just as much as the Resurgence. I used to be able to play 15 to 5 in any house shot with my Resurgence and now I am forced to play the 10 to 4 line or Straight up the boards. The ball lost a good 7 to 10 boards of hook just because I sanding the ball. So please learn from my mistake as I have if you buy this ball what ever you do don't sand it. Don't even sand it to it box finish. It just tears up the coverstock.

Just bought the Resurgence last week.  Had my 15lb ball drilled up with the #1 drilling.  Pre-paid for 4 games.  It took a few shots to warm up...not the ball, me!  Once i was warm and throwing comfortable, I was trying to play the tight line I am used to playing with other balls.  Ball rolled great, more hook than any other ball I have bought.  As aggressive as it is and playing the tight line, I threw a few splits during those first 3 games.  Decided to see how much room I had with this ball on THS shot.  Moved deep(deep for me anyway) was throwing 14 to about 5.  Strung the first 7.  Every ball was in the pocket.  Left a few weak 10's.  Ended with 268.  Highest game I have thrown in practice or league from the last 4-5 balls I have bought.  I have not used this ball in league play yet but this ball is doing what I had hoped it would do.  Which is allow me to play the "area" THS houses put down.  I will update this review once i bowl in league.

2/5/08 -
Bowled in league using the Resurgence.  This ball allowed me to play the THS condition the way I had hoped.  I didn't bowl great but I scored great. Shot 268, 204, 249 for 721.  What I mean by not bowling great is, I had the room to miss my mark 2-3 boards right and it still came up to the pocket and carried a strike.  I tugged a few shots and it held in the oil for a strike.  I know this is just one night of league but this ball is working great for me.

First, I had no intention of buying a new oil ball but, during a recent practice session. my Strike Zone cracked.  Since it was less than a year old, the pro shop said they would order me a new Strike Zone or allow me credit towards any ball they had in stock or could order.  After a lot of reading and watching videos I decided to try a Resurgence even though I was a little worried that it might be too strong as I am a senior bowler with slower speed and not a lot of revs.

I picked the ball up last Wednesday.  It's drilled with the pin under the ring finger and 4 1/2" from my pap.  The cg is below and slightly to the left of the pin.  We did not change the coverstock.  The lanes had been oiled that morning but had been bowled on.  After a short warm-up with another ball, I pulled out the Resurgence.  My first shot was straight up 10.  The ball tried hard to hook but there was just not enough oil on the outside and it hit flat.  So I moved in and threw at 15 (where there was some oil) with a little swing.  The ball got down the alley well and made a strong arc into the pocket.  A couple of more shots from this line were strikes and then the ball started coming up high and leaving 4 pins.  So I moved a little deeper (between 15 and 20) and was right back in the pocket.  The movement (shape) of the ball (for me) was a hard arc.  It seemed to do a good job of kicking out corner pins.  Maybe with polish and more hand than I have, it could have more of a skid/snap reaction.  But I have other balls for that type reaction so I plan to leave it in box condition.

My conclusion is that this is going to be a perfect ball (for me) even with my slower speed and limited revs, provided there is enough oil in the heads and the pattern is long enough.  In most cases it probably won't see the light of day but when I do run into oil, I believe I have a ball that will give me a good chance to score.

I will post another review when I find some oiler conditions this fall.
