rival question
« on: July 03, 2009, 06:38:49 AM »
i have been using the rival the last 2 years as my benchmark and it is by far my favorite ball. i have been offered a used one from a friend so i have a question. the rival i have has a 5" pin-PAP layout on it with a small hole on the VAL 'bout 1/2" down.
during tournaments this ball is great for game 1 and most of 2 but after that it starts to check early and i try and chase in as long as i can but after a while it starts to just burn and has nothing left when it reaches the deck. i usually have to then ball down and move straighter because all of my stronger stuff is early rolling. i would like to drill the new rival so i can keep chasing in so i would need it to be longer and stronger downlane so it doesnt check and burn so fast. i have a layout in mind that i really like which is a 6" and is on my wrath dead flush. it is the classic "long and strong" pin above bridge layout.

my question is: should i put the new rival in a longer layout and add polish or drill up a vapor zone that i have in the basement. i currently have a vapor zone and love both balls and would love to add another if i can.

here is my current rival:

heres the dead flush with the new layout im thinking of:

I think that layout on the rival would do what you are looking for, to an extent.  I think you could move the that rival for another game or so, but still be chasing and struggling with carry.  Though I am a huge columbia fan, I think the Vapor is the way to go here.  It's ball charecteristics are just more suited for this kind of condition.  Save the Rival for down the road when your current one loses some "stank".

ya thats what i was thinking. the vapor zone i have now i can keep chasing with for about another game maybe 1 1/2. so i could just do that and move to VZ#2
