I bought a Baby Blue Urethane Beast in the summer when I turned 14...I will now be turning 24 in 2 weeks.
I shot a 300 with it at the age of 15, but then got spoiled by the reactive resins, such as the Primal Rage, and Hammer 3D.
I had been struggling this year, so for my summer league decided to pull out the old Beast. It hasn't seen the lanes in about 2 or 3 years, but the thing is still A BEAST!
I'm averaging about 207 with it in the league...put up some decent numbers, 279-727. I took it to practice today, and had a 278 and a 277. I love it.
If you pull it through the oil, it has a shot to sit and get the pocket. I've noticed if you make a mistake left (i'm a lefty) and your mistake is about 5 or more boards where the dry is...it will come SCREAMING back, but off to the left just a board or 2...and it doesn't want to come back at all.
I used to find when I struggled for a week or two with the Resins, I'd go and throw some practice with the Urethane ball which makes me concentrate on making good shots and staying balanced and keeping good form. I made a small adjustment on my release recently which has allowed me to be A TON more consistent on my shot making, which is why I had been struggling so bad..throwing the ball all over the lane.
Last Wedensday in League I shot 237, 227, 210-674. Today in Practice 214, 211, 230, 278, 203, 185, 277, 215, 174. I threw off in the 10th frame of the 9th game so that my buddy could beat me and not have to pay me any money, as we're good friends, and I dominated him all day.
I have a Raw Hammer Doom and Tropical Storm here at home, but I am waiting on my new finger grips to arrive, so at home they sit. I also just purchased a Danger Zone and Hammer 4D, that I'm waiting to drill, but by the way the Beast is working out...I might not drill them until absolutely neccessary.
I know compared to the new equipment the urethane stuff can't really even compare with overall hook and stuff like that, but for controllability, urethane, in my opinion as far as not being jumping as all get out, takes the cake!
What do you all think? Am I just crazy...or do I make a good point?
