ACTION OR HAWG?
« on: February 19, 2006, 11:06:49 AM »
HELLO, NEED A LITTLE HELP DECIDING ON A NEW BALL, SPECIFICALLY FOR HEAVY OIL.
AFTER LONG CONSIDERATION AND RESEARCH, I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO 2 BALLS: THE HAMMER HAWG AND THE COLUMBIA ACTION.

IM A TWEENER, 18-19MPH, NOT SURE ABOUT REVS, BUT I KNOW ITS IN THE 320-350 RANGE, SEMI-ROLLER; RIGHT-HANDED. I PREFER TO PLAY 15-12 AT THE ARROWS, OUT TO 10 OR EVEN 8 AT THE BREAK POINT. CURRENTLY BOWL AT AN ALL WOOD LANE ALLEY, BUT WILL BE JOINING A SECOND LEAGUE AT AN ALL SYNTHETIC ALLEY.

WHICH WOULD BE BETTER FOR MY STYLE FOR HEAVY OIL? OTHER SUGGESTIONS WELCOME. THANK YOU.

CURRENTLY USE:

STORM SUPER CHARGE
TROPICAL STORM(DRILLED FOR LENGTH, USE FOR SPARES)

SORRY, FAILED TO MENTION THAT THE SUPER CHARGE IS DYING OUT ON ME, TRIED POLISHING IT HOPING IT WOULD CONSERVE ITS ENERGY, DID NOTHING BUT SKID DOWN THE LANE; USED GREEN SCOTCH-BRITE, BROUGHT COVER DOWN TO ABOUT 500 GRIT, WORKED FOR A WHILE BUT IS NOW DYING AGAIN, I TWEEK IT WEEKLY TRYING TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT, BUT DOESNT LAST LONG BEFORE IT STARTS DYING AGAIN. HAVE ABOUT 150 GAMES ON IT, STARTED DYING AT ABOUT 70. STILL WORKS GREAT ON MEDIUM AND LOWER, WAS NEVER GREAT ON HEAVY. WANT TO TRY SOMETHING NEW.

Scorchin Inferno, Super Carbide Bomb, and Epic Battle are greats balls for very heavy oil. I dont know how much "ball" you need though as those are VERY aggressive balls, you might be able to get by with a Road Hawg, Big One, or an Action(Action Packed if the backends are very clean). Just all depends on how much hook you want. Exspecially with wood lanes you dont want something that is super hook cuz the heads burn out so quickly and the oil moves very fast. I might be better to ask someone you bowl with or who bolws at the center as to a good hooking ball as if you get something to agressive it will burn up to early.

Action is awsome for heavy oil... also the EPX-T1 if you want to try a new epoxy technology.  This shell creates unbeleavble friction in oil.

Here are a list of balls you should try, in order or performance in my opinion.

Action
EPX-T1
Scorching Inferno
Super Carbide Bomb
--------------------
Arsenal:

EPX-T1 - Heavy oil
Action- Heavy to Medium oil
Original Inferno - Medium oil
Smoking Inferno - Medium to Dry
Blue Dot - Spare ball

Ok the hawg is partical low load so it will handle oil a little better then the reactive action. If you want a true oil ball find a rule GP2. Great ball, hits great and rolls nice. If you cant find it get the Robo rule. Next best thing in my mind sence it is hard to find animals.

I would say the Action. The Action revs hard down the lane. It works well.

I had the Hawg and it is not for Heavy oil.
If you want a Hammer Ball for Oil, get the Big Deal. It is suited for that
condition. Seriously.

I also said a RULE GP2. I mean I have had columbia reps say dead to people that with overall oil the epxt1 was great but not as long lasting as the gp2. The epoxys is the next generation of bowling but right now the oil ball to have is the gp2. Most particles ever in a ball. It was also medium load. Just think if it was heavy load. LoL it would be awsome.

The hawg was the WORST hitting ball I have ever used! I carry more pins and leave more makeable splits with a plastic ball! The Action seems like a solid peice to me. I have had 2 GP2's and they were decent balls for oil but, my favorite has been the Ebonite big time for medium/heavy and the Morich Seek and Destroy for SOUP! Those 2 have been my favorites by a LARGE margin!
