VIDEO & Quickie Review: Columbia 300 U-Turn Particle Pearl
« on: March 06, 2006, 01:46:50 AM »
Hi everyone,

As promised in my initial review thread:
(First Impressions of the U-Turn Particle Pearl - http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=117096&ForumID=3&CategoryID=2)

I took the ball out for a spin on Sunday 03/05/06 and put about 2 1/2 games on it to accustomed to it a bit.

Layout
4 1/2 x 4 5/8 (No Weight Hole)
Pin sits under ring finger (About 1 3/4 above midline) and CG shifted to the right a pinch.

Playing Surface & Lane Condition
20 year old wood lanes with a medium oil crown type shot. More oil in the middle and tapered towards the gutter. Pattern wasn't too long, but the oil in the middle gave the impression that it was (xmas or crown patterns seem to give me that impression or fool me until I see the shorter oil laid out outside! hehe).

What the ball did
Well, for a particle pearl, I really like the reaction of the ball so far.
On this House Pattern, Gets great push up front for a pearl, reads the mids decently for a particle and has great recovery in the back. Backend reaction on this crown shot was an arc type reaction or got a little angular if it sniffed some dry a little earlier. I was also impressed by the continuation through the pindeck. I left a few ten pins but the carry was more than satisfactory.

On to the Video
Alright enough with the jibber-jabber, here's a link to the video below. Sorry for some of the grainy quality, I'm using the old version of Windows Media Player.

interesting...that ball seems to hook, then lope into the pins on a bunch of thoes shots yet still hits hard. Was there a lot of carry downon thoes lanes? im suprised the ball didnt move more than it did with your stacked drilling.

Hey guys, forgot to add links to the pictures of the ball.
Video gets kind of grainy, so this should give you a better
pic of the layouts & stuff. Thanks!

In Response to BowlerKidR...
How's it goin' man? I agree with you for the most part. I went with a Pin under layout, because I didn't want this pearl ball to be too jerky on the backend. It reads the fronts and mids pretty decent. As you can see, it's pretty smooth on the back without sacrificing good hit & carry. Pretty cool ball so far and I'll report back after I get more games with it.

Thanks for the shout out, your ball rolls nice and hard just like mine. I have less hand but do not let that fool you guys that want to buy this ball it hits hard every shot. I would rate this ball over my action packed for hitting power and true lane reading ability, the action packed is good dont get me wrong but i like the utpp better myself.

My ball is pin over ring and cg stacked with no hole, it still rolls more than skid snaps for all those who are unsure of pin high or pin below drillings.

CHILLI911 - Hehe, well I think if you look at most of the shots, I wasn't able to belly it. As the night went on and the track area broke down a bit, I was able to cover a few more boards. It is a pearl ball, so it got pretty good length.

DPat - Thanks Dan hehe. Just wanted to give everyone a visual on the ball in action.

mrbowlingbut - Barry, thanks for the help in my earlier thread. I wanted to give the UTPP a try and I'm glad I did. I chose to go pin under just to get the ball to read a little better up front. I thought it was interesting that yours still rolls earlier even though your pin placement was higher. Neat stuff.

Thanks for the insight guys,
Ram
