I have a Big Time drilled to roll early in heavy oil. I have been looking at trying an Action for sometime, can this drilled to give a similar reaction. Would the Action hook even more than the Big Time? I've been looking at the Action and don't no if it's more a long or roll early ball out of the box.

out of the box for me it is a roll early type ball as it carries a 1200 grit dull finish. This ball can be drilled for a smooth strong arc motion for heavier oil patterns.

Just drilled mine and rolled 3 games on a fresh brunswick house shot,35 feet.
I settled in playing 17 to 5 with a really good early read on the midlane.. it set up great and finished with a POWERFUL strong hard arc, carrying almost any hit. One thing I really noticed was that the pins were really low on the deck, mixing well. It walked through the oil like nothing.
Best heavy oil ball i've thrown in 5 years... it makes the Ultimate Inferno look like its urethane.
I drilled mine stacked leverage. I got a lot of hand and decent speed.

Anyway, from what I've seen of the Action, it looks like a real good ball for up to almost true heavy oil. Agressive surface, low RG, good hit. Should be a perfect fit between particle oil eaters and normal surface solid resin equipment.

I agree with strider. First 35' is heavy oil when you put it down for the say the sunday mixed league or oldtimers league but on a mens shot that is very short. To me heavy oil is when they take the machine down to about 41+ feet Or if they use the mop to about 38'. I say mop 38' feet because that mop if pushed right can lay down in strips and it can really lay down some oil. Now the action will handle oil great for a reactive ball but it is no high load big oil particle ball.

You can have a 35' pattern that is very very heavy... he didn't say super long just heavy. I have seen some heavy volume patterns that you will need an action just to even out the reaction. On the other side I have seen super long patterns that are light volume that would make an action over kill.

While there's some truth to that, any time that there's 25' of dry boards, I'd hesitate to call it a heavy pattern, unless there was a lot of carrydown. Fresh league conditions usually don't have this problem. I was also considering the source. Cranking_Inferno has had some, er, interesting ideas about heavy oil and balls that handle that condition.
I do know what you mean about long light patterns and taming lively backends. I just get nervous when posts like the one I quoted get taken as gospel. I wanted to provide a more realistic opinion.

Never said it was a heavy oil shot i bowled on guys.. just said it was a freshly oiled pair to 35 feet... ease up a little.... if you look at my singiture, it says Action Heavy - Medium oil .. but honestly this ball is a beast of a ball.
