My friend has an alter ego should he use sandpaper or scotchbrite on it?

Sandpaper is said to be better for pure reactives(no particle)Since the alter ego is particle it is said to use scotchbrite,since the scotchbrite will expose the particles and not remove them as certain coarse sandpaper can...
