John and Lucky,
The problem, major problem with the Columbia "particles" used in the UFD coverstock is that they are so small and SOOOOO polished, that they almost more like a polished pearl resin, than any particle pearl at all. Note that the Columbia Ego also uses that same UFD coverstock around what is not a weak core. While I have loved my Ego on light to medium light oil, it not what anyone would EVER call a particle reaction. It does not handle carrydown at all. The U-Turn polsihed pearl also hardly handles carrydown at all.
So while it may be good, EVEN WONDERFUL on freshly oiled lanes with CLEAN backends, once you get any carrydown, one needs to changes lines or get out another ball. A lot depends on drill, hand and oil amount.
Heck, even the 1% particle load in my Roto-Grip Venus hooked more and handles more carrydown than my Ego. The U-Turn, with its slightly stronger core, might hanlde it slightly better.
