Apogee strength??
« on: January 08, 2007, 11:33:20 PM »
I am getting ready to drill an Apogee. I wanted everyones input on how strong this ball is. Is it your strongest ball, the first ball out of the bag, or your condition specific ball? Also include some suggestions for layout, or tell me what layouts are successful for you.

I know a guy that switched over from Ebonite to Columbia.  He says the Apogee is the closest to the One in strength if that helps you out any.

Never thrown the ONE. It did seem like it was a pretty agressive ball from what i've witnessed. I have not seen anyone with an APOGEE around here.

not sure about how much oil it can handle but it has looked VERY angular off the breakpoint from the one teammate i know that has one(versus his renegade ti at least).

dont know if that helps or not.

OOb the ball was very weak for me not even close to the one i have in strength, i never took down the cover so maybe with more surface it would be alot closer.

I sold it off i think there are way better balls out there in this price point like a Horizon Pearl or Vapor Zone but my opinion only on that.

Steve I was gonna buy one but my shop guy told me it was a fairly weak cover. So I went to the other exteme and got a Total Inferno.

M80 is one of the stongest covers on the market.

This cover is not even close to the one's cover in stength, yes solid m80 is very strong but not this version that is pearl. Real world experience from real bowlers that is what this board is all about, but thanks for all the info you do provide JJbowl.

I am just going by what my shop guy told me. Not saying anything bad about the cover, he just said it was a little weak. He could have meant weak for my game. Because of where I am at and his relationship with those products, that is all I have to go on.

I sold it to Ramtart he pmed me yesterday the ball goes a mile for him and his rev rate is higher than mine. On the Columbia site it says pearl m80 on some internet sites like bowling.com is says just m80. It sure looks pearl to me i am looking forward to possibly getting the big shot if the price is right.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but the BTM and the BJI reviews indicate a good medium oil, medium strength pearl.

Seeing as how this is a new asymmetric, mass bias COlumbia ball, did you guys follow the instructions for drilling? Sometimes with these asymmetrics a small pin or MB mistake have a huge effect on the ball's performance.

Just looking for reasons and possible solutions ...

Good luck with it, Rev-O.
