Alter Ego vs. Big Bully
« on: March 08, 2006, 02:40:05 AM »
Hey everyone,
I was just wondering how you think these two balls compare. I do own both but I put the Alter Ego in the closet because I didn't like the reaction I was getting. It seeemed to roll too early and then had nothing on the backends. I bought the Big Bully to replace it but I'm not sure if I like The Big Bully on heavy oil. Did anyone else have this problem with the Alter Ego and if so how did you fix it? Is there something besides the EPX for heavy oil that seems to work?

drillings and surface can really change the reaction!!

Do you know those things about the Alter Ego and the Big Bully.

Maybe could share them with us.

Both balls were left at out of box surface. The Big Bully is drilled with the pin next to the ring finger to get the ball about midlane before it starts to break. I'm not exactly sure how the Alter Ego is drilled because it is back at home and I'm at college right now but I do know that it was drill for max hook and early roll. Hope this helps somewhat.

If you had drilled for max hook and early roll it will not want to move alot on the backends. You have it drilled for heavy oil and it will work best on heavy oil. Just because you have it drilled that way doesnt mean that will come back when you get it out to far. It may come back and arc in if you get it out early enough. The alter ego should handle oil better then the big bully. One the big bully is reactive and alter ego is particle so the alter ego will already need more oil to work best. Two the big bully has a weaker core. Even though columbia says that the malot core is the strongest asymetrical core they made it cant be stronger then the alter ego core. I say this because to correctly drill any of the asymetrical balls that have the alter ego core you have to have the mass bias marked. The bullys being asymetrical didnt even need the Mass bias marked to drill them so the asymetrical core must not have been that strong.

That's because they are two different companies are using different covers and cores. There is no way you can fairly compare one ball to another made by two different companies. Each ball manufacturer has it's own characteristics.........
