I base my decision on how the ball responds to cover change more so than anything else.  Here in NY, we rarely see floods (unless bowling in a tournament or Carolier Lanes) so how a ball reacts to med heavy and lighter is considered moreso.  The above is my primary decision.

Seeing others throw a ball gives me a hint but really doesn't influence my purchase to a large degree.

My heightened and continuing understanding of the game as place more emphasis on other things besides the visual.
