I loved this ball the first 40 or so games. Now it just doesn't corner or carry with the same authority as it did when new. On the same conditions, it has gone from 90% pocket carry % to 50%. Why o why do columbia balls die so fast? This is the first columbia ball I've liked in a long time. I doubt I'll try another one anytime soon.

I tried dulling the ball and repolishing on my spinner and it has made no difference.

who knows, maybe your going into a slump. or maybe your just not rolling the ball like you did when it was new. I've had this problem with several different bowling balls. I'll think its the ball but in all reality its just me. I haven't heard anything about any Egos dying and since it isn't a particle ball I highly doubt it really actually died. Maybe your alley changed the shot and it isn't "made" for the ego. Give the ball a chance and try using it at different houses or at least on different shots. good luck.

try ebonite hook again or columbia CPR or CRp what ever its called. Also resurface teh thing

If you're throwing thumbless, with tons of revs, it will still absorb oil and that will still reduce its performance. Re-surfacing does not remove the absorbed oil, IF THAT IS THE PROBLEM.

I've had Super-Flex for hundreds of games PER BALL; they absorb oil like any other ball. Good treatment, regular cleaning and, sometimes, some oil extraction, and they last a long time.

EVERY resin coverstock absorbs oil. All suffer from reduced performance over time. Partciles wear as well as resin absorb oil; so particle balls need special care also.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I did a light resurface and that didn't help. The ball is covering a similar number of boards as when new. The difference is more in the crispness of the move. When the ball was new it turned really hard off of the drier boards. If I got a little soft with the shot it was always high. Now I have the opposite problem. If I get a little fast with the ball it won't finish. Same lanes and same shot. This is a fairly wet house pattern. 42 feet and soaked in the middle. It isn't a top hat. It's more of a gently tapered shot. Even the outside boards have quite a bit of oil. There is just a big puddle in the middle. This is the only house in the area I can use stronger equipment. I use a Sonic X, Barbed wire, or Big hit in most houses. Maybe oil absorption has killed it. I do know that I have had an Impact Zone with hundreds of games on it that hasn't lost its aggressiveness. I had similar longevity with a Storm Erase it. I've even done well with an Ebonite Puma and Pantera. All of these balls have had good lifespans for me. Maybe Columbia and the way I roll the ball don't mix. I think I was the only one who hated the first Messenger Ti. I tried a reaction Roll and hated it. I did like the green Messenger. I didn't care for my scout. Neither the Spirit I or II stayed in my bag very long. I should probably just stick with other companies.

Louie,

Some balls need to be drilled slightly or veyr differently than other brands of balls. One needs to know how certain coverstocks and their cores will react for your style and your oil patterns. The Messenger Ti balls are as generic as one can get. Like balls that many people seem to like (Danger Zones, Erasers, V2s and the like), they are very good because they are so generic in their reactions.

If your experiments with Super-Flex and Columbia balls have failed, there is no logical reason to use other than Storm or Ebonite or those companies with whic you feel comfortable. It can cost money. Of course, you may not have come across the right driller/pro shop to give you what you need, in terms of ball and drilling. Unless you want to experiment, continue to use what you have had luck using already.

I believe this coverstock dulls up a little because it revs up so hard combined with the friction on the lane.

I would resand and polish to box!

I think but don't know(it IS on Columbia's website 600 cross hatch and 2000 degree polish).

Verified above finish from Columbia's website!

Don't have any experience of this ball losing reaction.

Always have experienced tons of reaction except this ball loses carry on carrydown.

If there is backend this ball increases it and carriers beautitifully!

I'll try to duplicate their box surface. These lanes are stripped and dressed daily. The backends don't seem as crisp lately, but I couldn't tell you why. The machine settings haven't been changed. Maybe it's just the weather. I'm going to try some high rg dull balls and see if I get a better look.

To go a litte farther this ball has never really done it on carrydown for me!

It seems to really react strong on dry and the petal must be put to the metal.

Moving wider and playing tighter will on carrydown get it in the pocket somethimes but still often leave corners!

Versus my Throttle R really likes to handle a blended carrydown situation, just what I have seen for difference!

My best condition for my ego was a synthetic front wood back end but not super fresh but not carrydown.

When it worked it was beauty!
