So I think its time...
« on: December 24, 2006, 08:29:44 AM »
I have had my EPX-T1 for a while now, probably have like 30+ games on it.  when I first got it, it was not the hook monster that I really figured it would be, but what it did remind me of was my old Purple hammer, in fact side by side the balls were almost identical.  When I first got the ball almost the entire ball was the dark purple color that everyone talks about, well now just about every part of it except for around the pin and maybe a couple other splotches are the dark purple color.  I figure its time to go ahead and try to give it a hot water bath.  This is the first time I've tried the bath method of rejuvenating a ball, so I want to make sure I'm doing this right, and if anybody has something to add let me know, I probably will do it in about 3 hours.

Have a 5 gallon bucket that I will fill all the way full of hot tap water,  let the water cool down until I can hold my hand in it.  and then dunk the ball right on in.  The ball will have the finger and thumbholes taped up with packaging tape,  I'll let it set in there for 15 min, then take it out and wipe it off.  Now here is where I get a little confused.  Should I just dunk the ball right into the same batch of water, even though it is getting a little on the cool side?  or should I brew up a brand new batch of water to put the ball into?  Figured I'd let it soak for probably 30-45 min. total.  Anyway, I know this has been answered before but I just want to make sure, and seeing as how I don't post a bunch of things I figure I can get away with this one .

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

well I am in the process right now of doing the hot water bath.  I taped up the fingers and thumb with packing tape... yeah that didn't hold worth anything,  I put the ball in and covered it with a towel.  when I pulled the ball out it was real icky feeling on the cover of the ball, I did notice that the general color of the ball had lightened up a tiny bit but not like I was expecting.  I just put the ball in for another half hour with regular hot water.  We will see how that turns out.  probably will do it a third time with dawn or something like that.

ok, I ended up giving the ball 3 baths, all in hot water.  when I pulled the ball out everytime it seemed to get a little lighter in color but it still is no where even close to the color I was expecting it to turn out.  I have noticed that when I place my hand on the ball I no longer get the residue to come to the surface of the ball.  I'm going to take it out tomorrow night and see what it can do.  probably won't have a very heavy oil shot where I'm going so I may not get to use it, but I will at least be able to see if its changed the reaction any.  Thanks for the help.
