The Professional

I took along this ball to practice last night as I haven't used it in a year or so.  Was quickly reminded of what a great ball The Professional is with its M80 coverstock and Big Bully core.  While my Break and SD-73 classic were laboring a bit off the breakpoint, a slight move out with The Professional yielded terrific results.  This ball held its line very well even though it revs up very quickly, then made an extremely smooth and powerful move off the breakpoint with terrific hitting power.  Also very forgiving as it made it back to the pocket with authority on missses both left and right.  I practically couldn't miss in the last three games of practice.  If you own one of these and have it sitting on mothballs, pull it out and use it.  Just an overall great ball from Columbia.

I agree 100% drilled up this ball when it first came out and the first 2 sets were 755 with a 300 and a 742 with a 299, keep this ball with me where ever I go, and when I have to, I go to it and am not afraid to try it on all types of lane conditions

after that never liked it and everyone told me was the biggest dud

Since the S75 and the SD-73, in particular, are so much stronger than the Professional, isn't it probable that there was just not enough oil to use them, whereas the milder Professional (but not mild), with its milder core and milder cover, was right for the condition?

I was thinking the same thing.. or maybe he had too much cover on those 2 balls

You bet!  I wasn't trying to say that The Professional was a better ball than the Break and SD-73 Classic (wasn't the Break S75, btw).  The reason I switched was it was probable that the other balls were burning up a bit.  I'm a lefty, so the move to the left was to compensate for the fact that The Professional isn't as strong as ball as the other two.  I was just very happy with the consistency and performance of The Professional on what I presume was a medium to medium light condition.

Ah.
I did get the sense that you were implying that the Professional handled oil better, from the phrase you used: "While my Break and SD-73 classic were laboring a bit off the breakpoint". But I see now why you were saying that.

The Professional was one of the first of the really strong pearls intended for true medium oil. Many pearls, up to around that time frame, were intended for less than medium oil, most of the time, unless you sanded them or had a lot of hand.
