For people who have thrown/drilled/observed them, is there any appreciable difference between the Blue Sparkle Beast and the Purple Sparkle Beast?

No.  They say that color can affect ball motion.  However, if it is the case, it is going to be so minute you wont see the difference.  At the end of the day it is the same coverstock and same core.  Just pick your favorite color and go have fun.
