Problems With Ransom Demand
« on: December 20, 2011, 09:24:56 PM »
Has anyone had problems with their ransom demand dying quickly. I got mine drilled pin up like most of my other equipment. I tried it a few games of practiced and it picked up in the mind and had a real strong arc on the backend. It wasn't quite as much on the backend as ui expected but I figured I could move right and play it that way. First night out I shot 751 and was throwing it around 16.5 mph which is hard for me to keep it from going high. I went out 3 days later to practice and the bal was going longer and longer before making its move. I thought maybe there was just more oil so I just had to slow it down. The next time in league the ball wouldn't do much at all unless I got my speed down to around 14 mph. This ball had lost probably 75% of its reaction after 6 or 7 games. I tried scuffing it up some with no change in the reaction and have tried several surface changes since without much luck. I was wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this. I can see it if i had 30 games on the ball or something like that but this sounds strange to me. All of my other equipment is still rolling the same so i don't think they are oiling the lanes any different.

Is there a possibility that the ball is dying from not enough oil?  That ball is pretty strong and needs a good amount of oil in the front part of the lane to be effective.  There is NO WAY a ball can die that quickly without some change in the lane condition.  What "other equipment" are you speaking of?  Are they weaker or stronger than the Ransom Demand?

I currently am throwing a 900 Global Raw Profit with just a little polish, a Cell Pearl, a 900 Global Break and have tried a 900 Global S75. I usuually start with the Raw Profit and when the lanes break down I switch to the Cell Pearl and move inside. I have tried the Ransom Demand at several surfaces. 500, 500 with polish, 2000 and 2000 with polish and I also tried taking it up in steps 1000-2000-4000 no polish and nothing worked for me. Right now I have it at 1000 with as little polish as I could and can get some reaction if I really slow it down. I think it would work fine if the lanes were a medium condition and had some decent backends. The lanes I bowl of have quite a bit of oil and I don't have a lot of side turn so maybe I am not getting the ball through the heads clean enough. But when I have tried it really shined up it went straight.

So first you have the nexus solid dying on you and now the ransom demand.  No it's never the bowler's fault.

If it is burning up in the heads I don't know what else I can do. I try to come around the side of the ball as much as I can to get it down the lane but there is only so much that I can do. The thing I don't get is that when I first threw it the ball reacted fine and I don't feel that I should have to drastically change my release after such a short amount of games to get the ball to react. I still think the polish is the way to go for me it is just figuring out the right surface to put under it and the right amount of polish to use.

I'd be punching up weaker equipment...I go through phases where I simply can't get a solid to perform...just go to something weaker...like if the demand and the nexus are too strong or early..that's all I can think of.  You make adjustments ofcourse, but you won't be playing your "A" game.  I also develop bad habits now and then, ask your buddies if you look normal approach and release wise.  Other than that good luck.  One of my local centers is having oil machine issues, like baaaad ones.  It could be that..I feel ya with the frustrations.

I think your right. I have a Nuts Pearl on  order which should not have a problem getting through the heads. On more oil I think it will be fine.

After another few weeks with this ball I'm still stumped. I purcased an Omen which rolls a little earlier than the  Ransom Demand and the ball rolls great. I've thrown about 15 games with it and the reaction hasn't changed much and it carries very well. I am currently throwing the Ransom Demand as my 10 pin ball and it hooks about 3 boards. What is really strange is when I first threw it I loved the reaction I was ready to get another one because of the rebate and get it drilled differently. I'm glad I didn't.
