Freeze Hybrid vs Crossroad
« on: October 22, 2012, 01:27:21 PM »
Hey everyone.  I'm in the market for a ball I can use as a benchmark but also something I can use on my house shot and keep it in my hand all night.  This will mainly be used on league night since I don't have the time or money to bowl many tournaments anymore.  Anyway, my house has Brunswick Synthetics (not sure which model they are) and there is some friction burn in the track area.  They oil 41' with 21 mL of oil.  There is a Freeze Hybrid at my local pro shop that I can get for $85 or so but I've seen quite a few Crossroads at this house and they all roll very well.  These balls seem like they would be similar but I could be way off on that one.  Any input?

I'm a righty, PAP 5" over 3/4" up.  Not sure of my rev rate but I've been told by 2 coaches I'm a Tweener. Speed is approx 17 at the pins.

I love my Crossroad, i have mine drilled pin down(dont remember the exact specs) and it is so smooth and easy to read. I can stick with it all night on my league shot as long as I'm not playing with a lot of guys with heavy hands or ball whores with Nanos and such killing the pattern.

The Crossroad will be the more versatile ball of the 2.  That ball gets really nice length and is very easy to read.  You get a lot of performance for the money.  The Freeze Hybrid is a good ball but I see it 1 step below as a medium-dry piece.

1 option you don't want to overlook is the HyRoad.  That ball is very similar to the Crossroad (same cover, slightly different core) but reads a touch later in the midlane.  It's a proven ball, takes surface changes very well, and is extremely versatile (I've used it on dry to medium-heavy with good results).  You also might be able to find a better price on it since it's not the newest ball on the market.

i never owned a Crossroad but i had 2 Hyroads and i now have 2 freeze hybrid and 2 Solid.

The freezes is a step below the hyroad and are more smooth overall. You will have to play straighter with the freeze.

My Freeze Hybrid is the first ball out of my bag.  It's a great "down and in" ball, with INCREDIBLE recovery when you do have to start moving your feet right.  It reminds me a bunch of the old Messenger TI.
