Action Packed question for the Columbia guys...
« on: January 28, 2006, 04:15:46 AM »
I'm in the market for a strong backend ball that can handle med-heavy oil.  I have a blue Bully but it's a little too rolly.  I was thinking of a Power Drive but now with the Action Packed coming out, not so sure.

One's particle and the other has a low rg core, so...?  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks.

The action packed is not for heavy oil, its gonna hook less than the regular action and the power drive is for medium lanes as well..

Get the power drive sanded, awesome ball..

The reaction on the Action Packed is the perfect compliment to the Action.  The Action Packed has a higher Diff than the Action.  Which will give a bowler a stong movement at the breakpoint.  I think the Action Packed will be what you are looking for.  You can get a $10 coupon off our website.

The Columbia website has the Action Packed with a total hook rating of 57 with 32 dry and 27 oil, so this ball will not be good for heavy oil. It might compliment the regular Action, but as you stated you wanted something for med- heavy oil, the Action Packed will work on the med oil, but not heavy..

I still think the Power Drive Sanded would be a good choice for what you are wanting..

It's kinda hard to have a ball that can handle heavy oil and still have a strong backend. A Power Drive Sanded with a slight polish on it will still handle the oil, but the polish will allow the ball to retain some pop for the backend.

Action Packed isn't even out yet, so it's kinda hard to establish what it can and can't do. I know the numbers, but actually using the ball is really the only way to tell for sure......

The Action Packed will help you with some med/heavy conditions.  Columbia is marketing this balls reaction similiar to a particle because it does handle oil well and doesn't squirt to much in the puddle.  If you are bowling on a flood then yes I would say Action but considering he wants some back end movement I still think the Action Packed would work.  Good luck.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Joe, I think your post hit on what I was really getting at.  I should have been more clear.  When I say med-heavy oil ball, I don't mean a flood.  I'm not looking for a ball that would necessarily hook in the oil itself but a ball that will minimize squirt in the backends and make a strong turn when it does hit the dry.  I know the Power Drive is probably marketed for med oil but it looks like it has good recovery.  I'm a little skeptical of squirtiness, but I like the mallet core.

I know that the Packed isn't even out yet, but I'm guessing it would be the logical choice, especially with the higher diff.  But anytime I've ever thrown a low rg ball, it's been more of an arcing ball and not a hard backending ball...

That is a good idea jeff mop but with the Action Packed being a .054 diff and Action being .050 diff the Packed is going to have a stronger movement at the breakpoint.  Pending on the rev rate of the bowler.
