That's what I thought.  Seems like new ones are 75-78.  Dang can't find a hard spare ball anymore.

Thanks,
Scott

I gave away an old (early 80's) Blue Dot last year because it was 16#.  I have a 16# hard rubber Roto Star if anyone wants it.  Some ball returns don't like rubber though.  The Roto is on it's first drill.  I was supposed to be 93-94 hardness, but I never had it tested.

Edited to reflect that the Roto was drilled, just never had the hardness checked.

scotts33:  I read a post on the PBA forum a few years back which stated that Columbia started putting resin in their plastic balls to make them less brittle.  That was supposed to explain why the newer White Dots and Blue Dots seem to hook more than their older counterparts.

Strider:  Sent you a PM about the Roto Star.

If Blue Dots are just as hard as White Dots, then what's the difference?

The color, of course.

But to actually answer your question no they are just fancy looking white dots now.  Covers are the same on both balls.  Not near as hard as the old blue dots of yester year.

the old ones were(atleast mine was) 92 hardness-it was funny seeing them check the hardness at a tourny like they use to.

from what i heard-it is just a white dot-probably 85 or so hardness
