Bonanza II Value Ball - What is it?
« on: February 17, 2005, 01:07:47 PM »
I picked one up on EBay.  I was under the impression that the ball was either a blem of a Columbia, Track, or AMF.  Is that the case?

It really doesn't look like any balls they have had in the past few years (hence the blem).  Is Bonanza II just leftover weight blocks and coverstocks or is it actually a blem of a current ball?

It has the surface finish for SKU #039010150 and its serial number is 4YF00304.  It kind of a pukey green-brown with silver and brown swirls.

Any hints on this mystery or should I just drill for symetrical core and have at it.  I love a challenge.

Any help will be appreciated.  Go Eagles!  (oops)

you all got me to thinking

i have 5 sheer havocs that are bonanza II(i am alomost 100 sure they are-id call it 99.5%)

well-whats the difference between bonanaza I  and bonanaza II?

they are all great specs 2-3 pins and tops around 3.

3 are odd weights(14 14 oz)which make them second sometimes, the other 2 are 15 1 oz.

it got me to thinking why ar ethey bonanza-look good cosmetics, which cause them to be sometimes.
well i got to thinking
2 have pink pins, 2 white pins and 1 blue pin

well the talk about different core-maybe they have the wrong core with differnt covers.

what track balls had white-blue and pink pins lately?

or whats your insite on these

my distributor usually has bonanza, but usually bonanaza 1. And  usually wierd pins(like 6-10) and low or high tops.

Well, I'm not really worried about the CG - I'm sure the pro shop can find that.  I'm more just intrigued as to what the ball really is.  Lets say I drill the thing up and really like it - I mean, its the best ball I've ever thrown.  Somewhere down the line I decide the ball is done and needs to be replaced.  How do I know what ball to replace it with?  I won't have any idea what core it is or even the coverstock.  Will I just have to cut the thing in half to figure it out? (and, what would I use to cut it in half?)

Some people have a preference for a certain type of core, as we all know that the cover can be played with to get the desired reaction.  I seem to have better luck with symmetrical cores.

I think both balls look really good and they seem to have decent top weight and the pins look decent, so I would guess they are color blems.

Also,
I dont beleive the serial number has anything to do with the make or year on a Bonanza as it does with a First quality.  I have GP2's with starting number 2...

I would say ball #1 looks more like a color blem for a solid white dot than the Rage pic you posted.  It really is almost entirely black except for the little splotch of brown near the pin - although at angles in the light it tends to look slightly grey.

I was thinking if the 2x number was correct than #2 would look most like the Reaction Rev, and #3 the closest I could find to anything from 2002 with those colors would be the Track Spell.

I can't throw 15's right now, but I'm just dying to drill one of these up and see how it rolls!

Just look what I started ..

All I know is that for the price, I am more than satisified.  I still don't know what the core is, but, it's not like any other ball on the rack.  I have a feeling it is an asymetrical (sp) core just by how it feels in my hands when I pick it up (I might be giving myself too much credit).  It goes longer than my other three balls and snaps harder at the end, so, I have a different reaction than my other balls ..  all for under $100 (with drilling locally).

Thanks again to Bean for the quick response and shipping.

Hope everyone has a much fun as I am trying to figure the ball out.
It's what makes this game so much fun and so unpredictable.
