Title: BURST OR RANSOM
Post by: jonah300 on February 21, 2011, 10:57:23 PM
I wanted a ball to have under taboo and mission 250K,so i want something clean thru the heads but with a very controllable backend to bowl on medium oil.
For what i read the ransom is a skid flip ball...do u think i can tame that skid flip reaction with layout or it will angular no matter what and a burst will be a better option???
i have 400 rpm with 17 mph speed
thanks for the advice

Burst with a control drilling at 4000 abralon is my ultimate benchmark..

i have a Taboo & Ransom drilled with the exact same layouts. it is a pretty good combo. i have changed the surface on Ransom to 2k and it still gets down lane and not as flippy off the spot. the ball takes changes very well. a guy i know also has a burst and really likes it. imo, can't go wrong with either ball.

I absolutely agree. Burst is the first ball out of my bag on every pattern. Very controlled downlane motion without sacrificing carry. Mine is 50*x3 1/2"x40* with the cover at 3000 abralon and I can use it to start the night on most THS.
I have had the cover all up and down the spectrum with very good results. Box thru 1000....you get very predictable reactions out of every cover change.

Burst is probably a better choice, not sure if you'll be able to tone the Ransom down enough.

Yeah, if you are set to limiting your choices to these two balls there really is no better choice than the Burst.

The burst would probably be the better choice, because of the low rg core and the strong cover under the polish. You can make it even more readable by just adding a little bit of surface to it

I would go with a ransom w/ a pin down layout to tame the back end reaction for medium oil. The burst has a low rg and it will read the lane early and it will be earlier on the back end than the ransom. You say you want something clean through the heads, if I were you I would go with the ransom. I think the ransom is more of a medium oil ball than a burst.

If the Burst gives the reaction that you are looking for then get a Burst. The Ransom is a very skid/flip ball, why would you want to buy a ball and try to force it to react differently then what it was designed to do. That is why ball companies have many different balls to choose from, not just one.

Hi Jonah,
I cant talk about the Ransom as i dont have one, but the burst is a very nice piece. I have one and like other posters it is first out of the bag and i read the lane off it. The pin is just over the bridge with the cg just kicked out a touch (no Xtra hole) Its great for playing up the boards for me and if you want to it can still be swung and still retain recovery and power going through the pins.
Dont be fooled by the burst though, it is a strong ball! and very early for me. It goes off the pin deck over the 8 pin spot sometimes. But as you want in your post something with a controllable backend the burst is just that.
