c300 no BJI BOY mention

this may have been covered already.
i was reading my BJI BOY issue.
no c300 ball made the top 3 of any category.
when the resurgence and rival first came out they were touted as potential BOY.
what happened.
i still use my resurgence at 500 grit for the occasional flood and it works great.
never tried the rival.

the problem was that those 2 balls the rival and resurgance are awesome out of box...............  i got 100 games on the rival and 50 on the resurgance and after regular maintenance.......  the balls just arent the same as they were oob.......

I'm just not buying this.  I clean my balls after every set and have yet to see any loss in reaction WHEN THE BALL IS USED ON THE CONDITION IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE USED ON.

If you try to use the Rival on toast, it isn't going to do anything and will look like the worst ball ever made.  When you give it some oil, it will make you say "WOW!!!".

The Rival is a great ball on medium/medium heavy oil...anything lighter or heavier, USE A DIFFERENT BALL...

Look whos plant the stuff is coming out of I know its all Columbia's own cover and core designs but man I don't trust anything coming from that plant with the exception of Hammer cause they seem to have figured out how not to let Ebonite destroy everything they do.

Sorry just IMO Statment but Ebonite is just not very good in my book

   you dont have to buy into what i'm sayin at all....  keep buying ur ebonite and columbia and hammer stuff.........   i was thowing all of those balls........ they work awesome for 75 to 100 games..........  with normal maintence.......  after about 100 games the balls didnt respond to anything...  resurfacing and rejuvinating the balls did get some of the reaction back  but not like it was oob...........  the rival was my favorite ball from sept till now...........  now it never comes out of the bag........

who really cares if equipment gets a mention as the almighty Ball of the Year?  If a particular piece of equipment works for you on a given condition, then run with it.  It isn't going to quit working for you simply because it gets no mention in the magazines...

Does any proshops in your area have a Revivor Oven, if they do I recommend you bake the Resurgence and the Rival for 30 to 45 minutes, let them cool down a little and hit them with a low grit abralon pad (500 or 1000) with some Powerhouse Power Wash on a spinner.  The oil/dirt/grime will actually emulsify on the surface and will appear as a foam-like substance.  Repeat this exercise until the foaming is minimal (you'll always get a little). Than take them back to the surface that you want to use them at and strike away.   My Rival did the same thing a few months ago and after this treatment, it was good as new.   This is not unique to Ebonite/Columbia/Hammer balls, I've had some Storm and RG balls do this as well.  For example, I have a T-Road Pearl that absorbs just as much if not more oil than the Rival and Resurgence does.

I've thrown several 279s a 289 and 299 with my Rival this season (no 300s, yet), but about six months after I bought it, it started to skate on me and not finish as hard as it used to and the ball was actually deflecting when it hit the pins, leaving 5 pins and 8,10s which rarely happen to me, especially when I think I 'pured' it.  I take as good of care of my equipment as anyone, so I took it in to my pro shop guy and we put it in the Revivor Oven and you would'nt believe the amount of stuff that was bleeding out of this ball.  But after that and a quick cleaning on a spinner, it was good as new.  

VT, you're right about using the right ball on the correct conditions, but there's one more thing that plays a role and that's the layout of the ball.  For example, my Rival is drilled with a 5.5" pin to PAP with the pin above the bridge and the CG in the palm.  It became obvious rather quickly that this ball with this layout needed polish in order to work properly on the lane conditions I bowl on.   Once I polished it (light polish), it was usable on anything except deserts and floods, I just need to change my ball speed and axis rotation accordingly. I don't know how your Rival is laid out, but I would suspect if you use it on medium/medium heavy, it's probably either a pin down drill or a shorter Pin to PAP drill, which needs at least that much oil, especially given the box finish.  I'll know better when I get my 2nd Rival with a pin down drill to complement the other one.  

I love this ball and I cant wait for the next ball with this core to come out in about a month.  I've already told my pro shop that I want one.
