Step up from scout reactive?
« on: April 21, 2004, 09:04:59 PM »
Hi,

I'm a semi-new bowler.. currently using a scout reactive.  I like the control and reaction but looking for another with more hitting power and more forgiving on bad throws.  Doesn't have to be from columbia.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Don

try one of the mid-priced balls.

rotogrip silver streak
rotogrip silver streak pearl <- not too forgiving, but monster backend
track crunch time <- strong backend
hammer sling blade <- strong backend
columbia ego
storm eraser pearl particle <- decent hit, pretty forgiving

notice that pearl pieces offer stronger backend than reactives/particles.
if you want pearl, i would probably go with CT or SSP.  if you want reactive, probably silver streak, if you can't find that ball, maybe rotogrip apocalypse (for it's crazy hit).

i think that pearlized balls are more forgiving because they go longer and give u a little more room for error. if you are farely new to the sport i wouldnt buy anything above a mid priced ball. it wouldnt really be worth it. i enjoy throwing the barbed wire, it goes very long and hits good for me plus it is not expensive (good mid priced ball). if you are looking for something that hooks try something else.

I would have to agree with ashzero I think that the Sling Blade or one of the Silver Steaks would be good. I am more particle to Brunswick and there equipment after throwing Storm,Track,Columbia,Lane 1,and Ebonite. If I was you I would wait about a few months before buying a new ball. Here is my reason why.

Brunswick,Ebonite,Some Columbia, and Some Hammer: Have discounted a lot of there balls (especially Brunswick and Ebonite) Here is what you need to do I think you need to wait to see what is coming out between these two companys in the mid-price range before anything. I will tell you that Brunswick did a terrific job with the Ultimate Inferno and I will tell you that if this is what they are going to produce in the long run go with Brunswick.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Followup question.  Of the suggested balls, which one will allow me to bowl on the most conditions.

Thanks again,
Don

it all depends on the surface prep.

there really isn't "DO IT ALL" kind of a ball out there...if you want to stick with 1 ball, just be sure to prep the surface before hitting the lanes...

for that purpose, i suggest eraser pearl particle.  swing it out on the dry, on everything else, it lets you play decent lines.

If heads are wetter Detour.  If heads are dryer = EGO(pearl).

If not sure Detour!

messenger pearl bsp is a good ball.. suffers from little over/under, but that's okay...my gripe against that ball is that with some oil on the lane or in carry down, this ball will skate thru the breakpoint.

eraser particle pearl sounds like a logical choice to me.

It's a highly polished pearl resin, it's supposed to skate on oil and bounce off of the dry. That's why I bought it anyway.

you're exactly right.  messenger is great on light/medium lanes, but for pinheadx i thought EPP might be more suitable since it will allow him to swing it out on dry and still be able to get a decent line for oil.
