columbia asymmetric core ball??

has columbia ever produced a ball with an asymmetric core?  i can't think of one . . .

i was trying to think of a major difference between their three previous ball series releases . . . reaction line, icon line, and now the throttle line.

well, i guess i stand corrected . . .  they don't say anything on their website about the cores being asymmetric, but i suppose if you look at the core picture REALLY CLOSE, the core may be offset somewhat . . .

not a real huge gamble on their part, huh?!?

i wasnt sure either till i checked bowlingballreview.com and it says assymetric. it kinda looks like the time zone core too .

now just talked to my pro shop guy and he says that they are symmetrical so i apologize and stand corrected. gonna have to yell at them guy and bowlingballreviews for the bad info. heh

thx for the info.

they kinda wimped out on the two chaos balls you mentioned, jw . . . they put an offset puck inside a "symmetric" core to create a mass bias.

wonder why they've never come out with a "designer core" like track, faball, ebonite, etc.????

Scouts are assymetric.  The mass bias is very weak however and isn't marked.  The mass bias is in the thumb quadrant and can be found in the scouts on a line through the C.G 6 3/4 inches from the pin.

The Core pics do look offset, so if this is accurate which it might or might not be. But even if columbia did produce a ball with MB marking i wouldn't trust them to mark them all correctly either. they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn when it come to exact CG labeling.

well said, wells . . .

i was just surprised that columbia had never entered into the "designer core" extravaganza with the other companies.  i personally think that the core in the sport, richochet, WOW, etc. has been their best core.  i'm sure the weight may be placed differently in these balls, but it just seems to me that these blow the pins away.

i hope columbia comes up with something good when they do produce an asymmetric core.  i've always been a fan of theirs!

Because it's not necessary to make a core with mass bias to make a good or a very powerful ball.

The "Rage" core in the Mass Chaos (also used in many other balls, including the Track EZ Money, and, I think, Columbia Reaction Rev) is one of the strongest non-MB cores ever made. The Mass Chaos used by anyone without sanding the cover has/had a huge backend. All the people here in this post, whining about its having no mass bias, must have almost no revs at all or used it on the totally wrong condition. That ball flipped very hard on any condition close to its intended one.

i agree, charlest.  as i said in an earlier post, i've really enjoyed columbia balls.

the balls i've enjoyed for their back-end reaction are the sport, richochet and WOW.  (i didn't really like my rev or my ez money . . . different strokes for different folks!)

with all of the hype in the marketplace about asymmetric cores, you'd have thought that columbia, from a marketing perspective, would have entered the game.

now that i think of it . . . the ball companies that i like the most, columbia and lane #1 . . . are (darn near) all symmetric cores.  interesting . . .

why they needs a asymmetrical core especiallly with those tank tracks they put on the balls anyway i.e. Throttle, Icon300, Arc, and Rock.  If you what an asymmetrical design by a track ball tweak Columbia coverstock and totally different core. Columbia still gets a piece change from every ball purchase.. hey they own Track.
