Are EPX's discontinued?
« on: June 10, 2006, 11:34:31 AM »
If so, is anyone blowing them out yet? I would like to find one 15lb NIB for a resonable price.

when used on the right condition, it was a good ball,  however you need oil
to use that ball, and there is not enough oil in most houses,
also mr stormforever,  ever hear of the "trifecta"

it is storm's version of the epx.   it was a major failure also,
so columbia is not the only company that is capable of making a poor selling or mis-understood ball.

the trifecta was also great on the right condition, if used on it.

today's bowlers want and need more polished balls,  for them, using a epx dull,
is like putting mayo on a hot dog.

To continue the hijack a bit, the Trifecta won the best high end solid particle ball for 2005 according to BTM.  If enough people liked it enough to vote it the best, I wonder how you could say it was a failure, sales or otherwise.  Maybe it was only misunderstood in your neck of the woods?

BTW, a coworker at my last site loved mayo on hot dogs.  Yuck!

actually we sold the ball fairly well,  the failure or poor selling comments
actually came from storm!!!

as for the balls performance, it was also fine,  however it was not well received by the higher average bowlers,  who prefer polished reactive's

What a piece of crap if you ask me.  I never saw one person do any good with that "10 years in the making" ball.  Columbia should go back to the 90's and bring back the Cudas, Pulses, the entire Boss line, then they might be good again.  Not one single ball in their lineup does anything for me.

I just love it when people run their mouths about something they no nothing about.  According to your mindless rant, you've never even thrown one.  Hmmmmmmm...my EPX-T1 is one of the best balls I have thrown in a good while.  My teammate has one also and he agrees with me.  In addition, when the lanes dry out a bit, his Action Packed is money.  It was with Columbia's equipment which helped us win our Friday night fall league.

sir bowl a lot,  well said!!!!!!!
however, those bowler's that are knocking the epx, or any other ball, sometimes may be accurate.  it could be that they bowl on a drier pattern. and if so, seeing anyone using the epx,  more than likely they will not see a great
reaction. and if this is the only shot they bowl on, than one could see why their reaction to the ball is so negative.

the epx when used on the right condition by the right type of bowler, was and is a great ball.  however,  that pattern may not exist in many house's.
the ball requires too much oil.  and it seems the trend is towards lighter oil pattern's.

you have the knowledge to switch balls as the lanes change,  "the action packed"  but believe it or not,  some bowlers have only one ball,  and some
that have a more don't make the change in time.

Once again proves the point that there are no bad bowling balls, only bad bowlers.  If you want to go a step further with the ongoing EPX debate, my ball driller (longtime PBA member and holder of many of our association's records) likes his EPX so much that he has a small stockpile of them at his home.  He owns/operates a Columbia Elite pro shop and has sold dozens of EPX's and not one of them has cracked, fell apart, or what not.  In fact, it is the only ball he and some of his customers can use at one of the houses he bowls in since they flood the lanes there.

I grow tired of "fanboys" like Storm4ever, (who is clearly biased just by looking at his username and reading his profile) that come in here and try to run a company other than their "favorite(s)" into the ground just because either they had a bad experience once with that company's equipment or they just want to make themselves feel good about the equipment they are using.  By the way, Roto-Grip doesn't count since they are manufactured by Storm.  These "fanboys" contribute to the propagation of false info. and empty opinions that hurt any users that are new to BallReviews who come here for advice and suggestions based on the facts.

I'm sure Storm4ever and/or his brethren will reply to this with yet another immature and senseless remark which will do nothing more than solidify my point.  Before you act, read my profile and you'll see that I don't limit myself to one company.  There is not one ball manufacturer's equipment on the market today that I can honestly say I have never rolled.

*Now back to your regularly scheduled thread*

To answer your question Slopsurprise, yes it is discontinued and eBay is probably your best bet to finding one at a nice price.  Heck, I bought two NIB for $80 shipped a piece a few months back.  Good luck.

Well, the bad pro shop operator sometimes comes into play as well, at least in terms of recommending a bad matchup.  But your point is well taken.

Once again proves the point that there are no bad bowling balls, only bad bowlers and ball drillers.

we also did not have one that cracked,  however i did hear from several of our dist.  and they claimed to have had many that cracked.

I'm sure Columbia did the right thing and replaced them too.  I'd be very surprised if there was a bowling ball release that didn't have a single defect in their entire batch.
