If you were going to buy a ball............
« on: June 25, 2013, 11:15:30 AM »
If you were going to buy a new ball to be slightly stronger than a Freeze but still handle medium to medium dry conditions, what would it be?  Trying to stay in the Ebonite family.

Thanks for the help.

Freeze Solid with the polish knocked off.  Take the cover to 3000 or 4000 and be done with it.

Cyclone.

Tough to go wrong with a Cyclone. Great ball for the money.

+1 on the Cyclone.  You get a ton of ball for what you pay.  A person in my league this past year had a lot of success with it.

Another option you could look at is the Storm Frantic.  It's a great proven hybrid cover/symmetrical core match and is versatile on medium and medium-dry patterns.  You also can use it on some longer patterns as well.  Even though that is not in the EBI family, it's still worth a look.  I've had a lot of success on medium and medium-dry patterns since drilling a Frantic late last year.

If we are just going most/best ball for the Money it would be the new Disruption. Ball works on everything for me!!

Why not go with a Freeze Hybrid? 2 parts pearl, 1 part solid sounds like slightly stronger to me. Mine is great, later in the session. Not a dry lane ball, but by no means an oiler. Medium at best for me at box finish. I have not tried more surface. I want it to like some friction. I think it would handle more than medium with more surface.

So, how much stronger do you feel the Disruption is than a Freeze?  Also, I noticed in you video that you had the pin below the bridge.  Will that cause the ball to check up quicker?  Have you tried it with a pin up drilling?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes I went with the pin down to get it to see the lane just a little sooner. With my style of game I tend to stay away from polished covers. But when I do get one, pin down is normally my first drilling.  But I will say I wouldn't be afraid to drill one pin up.. Ball is just to good!

I am probably about 4-5 boards left with this ball than I would be with the freeze at the arrows so nearly a arrow stronger for me.. However drilling it pin up would get it down the lane a little further allowing you to close those angles some getting to a closer line with the freeze.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

The Mass Eruption and Disruption are two of the best balls on the market period. Would probably cover most conditions you would face in leagues and the surfaces can be adjusted for stronger or weaker ball motion.
