Columbia's Shock...A lumbering jewel!
« on: March 17, 2006, 03:34:05 AM »
Well I knew this ball whould be strong...after all I've had the reaction Rev and the Ego!  (and the same core in Action and Action packed shows some rev up eh?)

I'd always thought if I could just get the Ego in solid I could really make some hay.

Didn't quite get thh thumb worked out perfect before rushing to league but I will admit it saved what could have been a disastrous set.  Started with like 5 straight 9 spares....a set of circumstances that often leads to an Irish Implosion(me).  Switched to the Shock and at least bagged a few.

I've seen reviews likening this ball to an Ultimate Inferno with a touch more backend...I could see that.

Worked the thumb out the other day and it was really hammerin em then!

Not a drilling I would have thought of to solve this condition but my thanks to Billy Ray for coming up with an equation that may be solving this most difficult of lefty graveyards for me!  He just may be an Ubber genius.

Drilled 5 1/2 X 3 1/2 pin under bridge and cg out and a small weighthole down but not quite to VAL!

Reaction is frankly...heavy rolling BORING and smooth...but watching the pins get HAMMERED...is FUN!

First time I've ever had area and carry at this house!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I'll update!

Lefty Thanks for the Props!

Like I said it won't be flashy but bottom line is the scoreboard!
Continued success.

Again...last night used for 1/2 of the set and it just almost never leaves 7s in this 7 pin 6 pin graveyard for me and many other lefties!

The pin down under bridge and weighthole position and size left I think only one 7 pin all night!  Similar drilling on a similar strong cored Supercharge but pin over bridge either kills em with light action or leaves me staring at explosive 7  pin rack rips all night!  Supercharge jerks very hard at the read point!  This beautiful smooth read is spelled AREA!

The combination of this smooth ball powerful ball and core and Billy Ray's tweaks has got me in 7th heaven.  (I have a chance).

don't have one...  But easy....

3 inch pin out ball.

Pin under bridge.  CG out about 1 1/2 to 2 inches from grip center and down!
ie if there was a MB position it would be strong to on VAL but not quite!

Weighthole down but not all the way to VAL.

Solid coverstock strong core ball Billy Ray told me.
ie this ball...a V2 Power, X factor deuce...that type of thing!

Importance of these items match on my longer pattern...low volume of oil strong wet dry on slick Brunswick anvilanes!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS note pin posiition for me is 5 1/2 from my PAP!

With the ball being a 3 in. pin that would put the CG real close to your thumb?  appox 3/4 up and 1 1/2 left of thumb?

I thought the UFD cover was particle?  I haven't gotten a particle ball yet.

I am looking at changing alot of my layout and grip and this may be one to look into. So any and all info would be greatly appreicated

Suppossedly almost like a pure solid reactive but a very light load.

I have heard likened to a Ultimate Inferno...true as far as reaction!  But can create more backend if drilled for it!

You are correct on cg position!!!

Weighthole is also key I believe....down and only out about 5 inches...inside my VAL small weighthole 25/32 drilled over 2 inches deep!  Because of cg down position I drilled thumb 2 3/4 deep instead of 2 1/2.  If you have a shorter pap also be inside yours about 1/2 inch!  Also if you are a lower tracker pin would be moved closer to under middle finger.

would really like to see a pic of the lay out and Will try to get measurments on my track and and my PAP.  Most of my Equipment is drilled pin next to ring with Cg kicked out up to 2 in.  Weight holes placed on the PAP to bring back to legal.  When the Wife gets home with the Camera will get pics and get a good profile up

The shot I'm using it on is a very light application severe wet dry from side to side!!!  SEVEREST!!

This thing drilled as above smooths it ouT so sweet!

I had another lefty fascinated with how I couldn't leave a 7 with it yesterday!!

AND he also couldn't believe how it didn't bounce hard off our severe dry!..most shots swung wide either split or go brooklyn with many standard drillings...even playing an inside shallow swing like I am.

Most lefties in this house think they only have about 1 board at the breakpoint in this house to strike....this ball is giving me almost 4 to 5!

Again Kudos to Billy Ray...my lefty friend ran home with a diagram of this drilling in amazement!!!

Obviously this powerhouse core and cover can be drilled much different to create a dramatacially different effect!

Another nice set...this time on one of the few times I've seen oil on these lanes...5 boards left and killed it!

This ball and this drilling are SO flush on this pattern and lane surface.

BOring...but HIGH SCORING!

Thanks Billy RAy!

I told her I am good but not a miracle worker. LOL... She didnt see the humor in it.

Great bowling keep it up.
