As far as the Dead Flush goes, the theory is that the longer pin to PAP helps with the burn along with the fact that the pin is way above the fingers and the coverstock is a little harder than most balls on the market right now. The CG is only kicked out a little bit to give it a little extra kick on the back (or so I think). I went with the pro shop operator's recommendation and this is a guy I've worked with for a few years now that I trust. From what I've seen of it so far, it's very quick off of the friction (maybe a little too quick), but I haven't thrown this one enough to get a feel for it yet.
I used the Momentum in our City Masters tournament today and shot 814 for 4, but it wasn't nearly enough to make the cut. The backends were flying a little too much for the Momentum, probably should've used the Rival, but I was stubborn. As far as comparing the length of the Rival vs the Momentum, I would say the Momentum is slightly longer, probably in the 3 to 5 ft range, but the key is that it gets through the heads a little cleaner, even on the burn. Keep in mind that my Rival has a light polish over the 4000 grit surface.
I was very impressed with the Rival and Resurgence that I used over this season and I decided to go with a mostly Columbia arsenal. These new balls just match up to my game better than anything else I've ever thrown. I have a significant amount of Storm Equipment that is about to be donated to the local Jr program due to the fact it doesn't match up to my game as well. It's a learning curve in figuring out which ball to use when, etc. But I've never felt that I have the possibility of throwing an honor score with any ball in my bag like I do with the Momentum, Rival and Resurgence. I'll probably add the Dead Flush to that list when I've thrown it a little more.
