dead full throttle
« on: June 24, 2004, 05:20:15 AM »
I had a new full throttle and loved it at first. After about 30 games i noticed the amount of hook/power was not there.I took it to a pro shop and had it re-drilled thinking it was the way it was drilled. I got it back and it was a dead ball hardly no movement. Has this happened to anyone else?

This should rarley happen with the full throttle, and espically 30 games is awfully low. Do you properly clean it?

Hm, the reaction in my Full Throttle is definitely less than when I got mine. I'm not sure what happened either. I cleaned mine all the time. Maybe ebonite's hook again might make the ball hook like it was brand new?

Come on, not all Columbia balls are bad.. I agree the Throttles have had thier problems but I have tried and seen the Wired, Ego and Alter Ego in action and they are all great balls. The newest ball in the fipside line is the Shock and I plan on drilling one of these up next Monday. I will report back after I try the ball..

Proper care slows the process of what as known as tech death that so many of you have come to love of columbias coverstock.

If done properly from the beginning you can slow it's progression down.

Proper cleaning and application of the Elixir along with a resurface will bring most of these balls back.

Stone - I do not live in the past and have spoken with several of the columbia R and D guys at their seminars.  They even admit that the Tec Death was not a myth and that they still have problems even with the newer coverstock designs.  I was using "tec death" as way of description that everyone is familiar with a bal dying in reaction.  It was not meant to be taken literally.

Many people I know and myself included have thrwon Columbia as well as every other major manufacturer and have concluded that Columbias coverstocks are some of the best around for the first 50 games and then they just lose their pop.  With proper maintenance this can be lengthened but for the most part you will find that columbia coverstocks and not just the particle ones do seem to deteriorate quicker.

I have a throttle R with over 500 games on it. I had to have the oil removed around 300 are so and it is still going strong. It still covers the boards like mad.

I have an EGO that is astounding.

Full throttle is reactive.

Probably needs a resurface or a good cleaning.

Yea jeff Mop it is all of us, its a conspiracy. ITs a national boycott. Funny only time i ever hear you chime in is when someone has a complaint about c300 and strangly you call the issues other people have, and i quote "neurotic".

Maybe tec death is a figment of our imaginations. Maybe columbia doesnt put out 3 new balls every 6 weeks or so. Again all this is our neurotic psychosis.

Maybe its all just a bad dream!

You made the mistake of purchasing a Columbia ball. You will see that throughout this message board that Columbia products are known for this exact thing.

I am in total agreemnet with John Kleist on this. Columbia balls are not the best of quality products. As John said, you see the problems with Columbia balls thruout the message board.

Ok, this is probably going to get a little mini war started but o well.  You say that you can see the problems with Columbia balls throughout the message board, well thats just fine and dandy but I see the problems with Storm and Brunswick ON THE LANE.  Out here we see a lot of Storm and Columbia equipment used.  I have never seen a Columbia ball die on a person like everyone says happens.  I have 2 Columbia balls from the TEC Coverstock period and they are both STILL almost as strong as ever, even after having nearly 200-300 games on them without a resurface.  These 2 balls were the Extreme Chaos (TEC), and the Rock (TEC2).  Basically what i'm trying to say is if you have problems with a certain company then DON'T USE THEM, is it that hard to go out and not dog somebody elses company.  I don't go in the storm forum and tell people about how crappy of balls storm makes.  I don't even touch the Brunswick forum.  If you have a problem with a company just keep it to yourself.  if you want to tell somebody about how much you hate Columbia or Storm or Brunswick then Private Message them.

Like i said this is probably going to start a little mini war, but o well, i got my 10 cents out.  hopefully some people listen. lol.

And to answer your question Bowlnrd, I would definately bring up the surface on your Full Throttle to near 1000 maybe even 1500.  that should bring back most of your hook that you say you lost.  Hope the ball works out for ya.

Thanks, for the advice but i got rid of the ball after i tried re-surfacing the ball and had it re-drilled xtremly strong. But in the end i didnt get any more movement. So i traded it to someone who throws thumbless. Any how i still like coloumbia and will continue to use there equipment. any word on the alter ego?
