Drilling a Action & Action Packed
« on: April 12, 2006, 04:14:37 AM »
I just got a Action and a Action Packed in, and I was wondering how I should drill it up. The Action has 3 oz of top weight and has a 2 1/2 in pin. I wont this ball to hook as much as possible on oil. The action Packed has 3 1/4 oz top weight and a 2 in pin. I wont this ball to go a little longer and be more skid snap, but I wont it to hook as much as possible with these properties. I have some layouts in mind but I would like some opinions. I have a low rate of speed, and I don't put alot on the ball but I do have a pretty high track.

Try to use a stacked pattern on the drilling of these balls. A 4 X 4, or 4 1/2 X 4 1/2 with the pin in a position of at least as high as the ring finger, or posibly even over the ring finger, to get the length you need from these pieces with lower ball speed. The Action Packed will be more skid / flip due to the shell surface, and the Action will start sooner, and be more continuous. Hope this helps give you some ideas.

Drill Action stacked leverage, take it down to 1000 or 800 grit sanded finish, if you think the 1200 is to long.

Drill the Action Packed 1:30 label... its the best drill for the small pin, since the ball gets doen the lane with ease... tr y it.. i drilled mine both like this and OMG they own..

Thanks for the sugestions, I had already thought about doing a 4X4 drill on both ball and you sugestion just made it clear for me. I drilled them today and tonight it payed off ok. I hit a pair of lanes where the left lane was pretty heavy oil and the other lane was a little on the dry side. At first I was throwing the Action on both lanes, but the lines were so far different that I was not being consistent. So I went to the Action Packed on the right lane and the Action on the left lane. That was the trick I shot 665 and ran the front seven in the last game. Its not great but its pretty good for the first set trowing both ball at the same time. Its also the first time that I have trown a Columbia ball in forever. Thanks again!
