New Drive
« on: October 22, 2004, 03:33:03 AM »
Hi I am looking for a replacement for my Ebonite Tiger ball which has been well used over the last almost 4 years.  I am looking at the Drive by Columbia or the V2 Sweet by Ebonite. I bowl on synthetic lanes with a medium oil base. I bowl on 2 consecutive leagues on one evening.  I have averaged 180+ for the last 4 to 5 years.  Anyone using Drive or have some suggestions.  Meg

I did not see it on lanes but like many things today the coverstock though pearly looks duller or softer.

If one looks at most of the specs today recently reactive pearls are being made softer in hardness.  Take a look at most of Storms new monsoon stuff.  Hardness below 76.  Traditionally pearls have had hardnesses right near 80.  This is changing our perception of pearls and making them more usable on today's slicker oils and more controllable.  But also means if you really need it the pearls of yesterday and the very recent past(hardness of 77-79) will skid longer and snap harder.

The Tiger was a great ball and one of those old style!  The V2 sweet is probably closer to the Tiger.  The Drive part of this new set of softer pearls.

REgards,

PS that V2 Clean is a great ball and I"m loving my V2 pearl drilled weak in a slot where the Tiger was also probably pretty good!

I am using a drive tonight on a 2nd shift league i will pm you tomorrow or sunday. I also have v2 sweet which is very smooth and hits well like a v2s, i also have been using the rotogrip rs-1 lately and averaging about 220 with the ball on tougher conditions with alot of carrydown. The rs-1 is on sale at bowersparadise.com for 89.99 so it is a great ball to consider and like all rotogrips it hits hard.

I used my 40.00 ballreview special thanks dave300 ball was redrilled pin over ring finger with cg kicked way out about 4 1/2 pin with weight hole below pap in the thumb quad area. Well it clear the heads very well rolls very hard, alittle less than factory surface from the resurface of the redrill and flips off the dry hard. A different look from most Columbia releases reminds me of a stronger big blue pearl off the dry a better version for me at least. Anyway 211,213 kept me in the pocket on a shot where a track freak a zoid sometimes would move and sometimes skate past the break point in game 1 before switching game 2 and 3 to the drive. I am liking my columbia made stuff track, columbia, amf balls more and more daily, tonight it will be track, columbia and rotogrip in my bag for scratch league.

track rule to handle extreme carrydown
columbia shock
rotogrip apocalypse
columbia richocet rebound
rotogrip rs-1
hammer big blue spare ball
