Title: Expecting flooded lanes - best Columbia ball?
Post by: fabes on January 07, 2005, 06:07:35 AM
Going to a tournament and at least one of the shots will be a flood. What is the best current Columbia ball for a flooded condition. I am more of a tweener, with medium revs and medium to high speed.

Are you open to any other companies? For me I find that Columbia naturally go a bit to long for floods. You should go with a comapny that naturally rolls earlier to optimize your scores on the oil.

Flipside Shock with a low pin position.  Play inside and don't try to swing it too much.

Works for me.

The Throttle IS Columbia's oiler.
It's still on their website.

I guess I would be open to other companies, I mean I have owned something by about every company at one time or another. In your mind, what is the best oil ball out there now. I know we will not get a consensus on that question.

Of course not, since there is not "one best"; they are just a lot of good oilers out there.

In my mind there are three very good "flood" balls.  the absolute best (earliest hooking and strongest in oil) would be the discontinued Midnight Scrocher by visionary.  This ball is rediculous.  Next would be the super carbide bomb by Lane#1.  This ball has a super strong cover and a rediculously strong core.  This ball is made ofr heavy oil.  Third I would say is the Angle Evolution Tour by AMF.  I have never owned one, but have headr/read that this is a great oiler too.  If you are looking to save some money, you could probably get away with a mid-line heavy particle ball... such as the swamp moster, BVP Goliath, granite gargoyle, or others.  But if it is truely a flood, I would stick with one of the three above mentioned.
Good luck!

The best oil ball currently available - no contest - the Super Carbide Bomb.
The best oil ball FOR THE MONEY - either a power groove sanded or goliath.

Now - I have heard several people say that the SCB doesn't hook much for them. This is probably true. They're probably trying to use it on dry, and it's burning up at 30 feet. Not kidding. This ball is THAT strong.

Try a Big Bully with 500 abralon pad. This will be early and still have some pop on heavier oiled condition.

Nobody's mentioned it but you might want to try the WMB, or if you can find one a Reaction Arc.

practicing on a heavy shot during the holiday break and mine was visibly flaring and trying to roll at 15-20 feet for my teammate(tweener) but threw a five bagger in tennis shoes(she came up during the rest of us practicing, same span different hole sizes)...i still havnt gotten a hang for it yet...my power diesel or vicious attack is usually too much by nights end.

trying to convert her from ebonite to lane#1..she really liked the scb even though she's had bad results with med-hvy load particles
