What could I expect from this ball?
« on: April 04, 2010, 12:12:12 PM »

I have a chance to pick up a used Arch Rival with the pin about 4" to 5" from my pap and about an inch above the ring finger.  It's now in box finish (4000 Abralon) If I take the surface down to 2000 would this ball (with this drilling) handle a good amount of oil?

Thanks.

I wouldn't freak without throwing it. Its definitely going to depend on what you define as a good amount of oil and how you throw the ball. Try it out first and then adjust surface, i'd be willing to bet it would need a little more surface but try it out first and let the balls reaction tell you what to do.

I agree.

First see if the ball ends up spinning up fast enough on the lanes. If it does but it goes too long, add surface till it picks up soon enough. not much else you can do other then re-drill after testing it on the lanes.

Depending on your rev rate, ball speed, and the conditions you're bowling on, 2000 surface should be a good starting point for judging the ball motion. If you don't see it hook as much as you want, I'd recommend a weight hole or more surface. There are a lot of variables there man, you just have to start tweaking it to fit your style.
