Title: Formula = longer than
Post by: LuckyLefty on March 23, 2004, 01:12:12 AM
Where would Formula Users put it as far as length.

Similar to REaction Rev?  Similar to Wow Pearl.

Like the Icon?, Icon 2?

I have heard some say similar to Icon 2 in length and backend.

Those who've used it give me a clue.

I would definately say it's earlier than a Wow Pearl.  I think it would be earlier than an Icon 300 with the same surface prep, but then my Icon 300 never really seemed to hook that much.  I ended up taking the surface down on my Formula. Once it got a track in it, it started up pretty early for me and was much easier to control off the break point, so I decided to take the surface down and try it on heavier mediums.  I'm still not really sold on the ball, it's just too close to some of my reactives and doesn't hit as well, but maybe I just haven't hit the right condition yet.  I'm sure others will disagree, but the Formula actually reminds me of a strong Wicked B/R/T.

That's sort of what I thought.

The Wicked BRT is pretty popular around here on later conditions.

Earlier than an Icon300?  Are you positive?  Maybe the reason yours never seemed to hook that much is because it started at your feet and needed a lot of oil to be effective.  I haven't seen a Detour yet, but I can't imagine too many balls hooking eariler than an Icon300.

The Icon300 has a much bigger hook potential in oil.

For me anyway, the Icon 300 didn't flare that much with a 6 inch pin to axis drilling.  What little it did flare was pretty late (the differential is lower and the Rg is higher than the Formula).  For what it's worth, I have never been a big fan of solid particle balls since they don't match up well for my high rev rate/low tilt/medium speed release.  Both are good balls, but for me there are better match ups for my game.  I like the Full Throttle much better than the Icon 300 or Formula, and from what I've seen, the Detour looks like a good compliment to the Full Throttle.

Hope this helps...
