Got a Resurgence drilled up today
« on: September 15, 2007, 07:19:03 PM »
This is my first Columbia ball since the Icon.  The layout is pin under bridge, CG at 45 degrees.  It's a 5 x 3 with the pin 1" above my midline.  The x-hole is just a hair inside my VAL and 3.5 inches down from my PAP.

This ball is a replacement for both my Epic that has cracked for the billionth time and also my Odyssey that I just don't get along with.  I wanted something for the heavier volume THS that I've been seeing lately and also for my PBA Experience league.  The layout and ball choice were made to provide a smooth, earlier reading ball but still provide some strength for heavier/longer conditions.

I haven't used it yet, but I'll take it to the lanes in the morning to see if they put enough oil out for it.  If they did, I'll do a comparison between it and my Yeah Baby, Odyssey, and Epic.  I might even shoot a video.

If you wanted smooth then why did you go 5". That would put the Pin really far away from your PAP. This normaly makes a ball skid more rather then roll and roll would give you a good smooth look.

Because the nature of this ball is early and smooth as it is.  The pin is almost in my palm...only 1" above the midline.  For my game, almost everything is smooth with a low pin.  I could have gone with a shorter pin to PAP but with the added flare potential I would get from doing so, I don't think I would be able to use it on a very wide variety of patterns.

I got to the lanes yesterday morning.  They had a fresh THS shot out which was a surprise.  I don't bowl league at this house anymore so I'm not totally familiar with the shot, but I did bowl there last year and I imagine it hasn't changed much.

The Resurgence is A LOT of ball.  It was very clean up front.  It was super-strong in the midlane, and made a strong yet smooth move to the pocket.  The continuation is what really caught my eye...it just never stopped as long as I came around the ball a bit.  I have almost no axis tilt and not a whole lot of axis rotation.  On the THS I was playing 17 at the arrows to 7-8 at the breakpoint.  My normal release doesn't allow me to bring a ball back from much deeper.  I did throw a few out farther than that, but the ball used up too much energy trying to make it back.  I also had to stay pretty firm with my speed.  Honestly, I wouldn't use it on this shot if I saw it regularly...not enough oil.

I threw my Yeah Baby! and WCR on the same line to get a brief comparison.  Both balls went significantly longer...the Resurgence read the mids much better.  The Yeah Baby! had about the same amount of backend but since it pushed longer it was leaving 2-10 combos.  The WCR went longer yet with a bit more backend than the YB.  From the line I was playing, the WCR was also very light, sometimes not even making it all the way back.  They all have "lowerish" pins and different cover prep.  I only bowled 4 games, so take any of this with a grain of salt.  Below I posted a video I shot early last year so you can get an idea of my game, although I will say it has changed quite a bit from then.  Sorry about the quality.
