How is your Action drilled?
« on: April 24, 2006, 02:38:19 AM »
How is your Action drilled, how do you like it, and what conditions does it excel on?
--------------------
Yes, there is enough oil and no, the ball is not rolling-out.
Is that your answer to everything in life?

Read my profile and you'll see why I can honestly say this.

Stacked, medium-heavy, I like it a lot for this condition

Action for me is over the label, 5 x 5. Highly polished, use this drill pattern and polishing to create length, as I don't need help making the ball finish. I use it on most conditions, move right for oil, inside when required. Great combination, rolls true and smooth, without a lot of over / under reaction. When the lanes get drier, this ball starts to turn to early, then I go to something pearlized with the same drill pattern.

4 1/2 x 4 1/2 pin above ring, out of box surface. Usually use this ball on the fresh.

4 1/2 x 3 pin below ring with 1 inch hole 2" below pap red pad on front flares. Usually use this on harder surfaces with more oil.

Hope this helps.

I got my ball drilled last night. 15lb 3oz, 2 inch pin, 2.7oz top weight. You and I sound similar in our speed. I throw the ball too fast on oil, so my driller punched ball out for max leverage.  Pin is to right of ring about 1 inch and below about 1/2 inch.  He calls this cg leverage. This looks similar to Brunswick E1 drilling. Center of grip is a little to left of cg, maybe 1/2 inch or so.  He wanted to give me max leverage because of my speed and because I don't have a lot of revs.  With the box finish on fresh heavy tournament oil he had at the house, I still tended to throw ball too hard.  He had me work on slowing down, and cocking hand in more of a loaded position to gain some revs.  The ball would strike when thrown relatively slowly (slow for me anyway.) This was standing with right foot on 22 and throwing over 3rd arrow.  I tried outside line tonight after league and I liked it better, standing right foot on eight, throwing over 1st arrow. I threw strikes on shots where I cut the speed a little and loaded my wrist a bit.  Balls that hit the pocket more straight did not carry.  If I threw the ball a little too far outside but at a slower speed and with some wrist, the ball would come back to pocket and carry.  The ball wants to have some revs to strike otherwise it leaves funny pocket splits.  Also, it has a 1200 grit factory finish.  For my speed, my ball driller(also a silver level coach) recommended taking it down to 800 grit. We are going to try sanding it next week. The ball seems to respond to less speed and more revs on heavy oil.
Hope this helps and good luck to you.

My Action is drilled finger weight only. Out of the box it hooks alot but i had put in a light polish to have extra length. I haven't roll the u-turn much but i notice that extra length but nice back end. Low Rg great ball only use it league nite with the red pulse. But the red pulse seems to be sensitive. Needs to be use light oil to dry. Ying Yang spare ball. I love it the first time i saw a friend of mine has one so a former driller of mine rest in peace has this ball stacked up and gave it to me before passing. So it was cool.

Arsenal:
EPX heavy oil
ACTION = heavy medium = depending on how i can alter the cover stock
U-TURN = MEDIUM TO LIGHT= DRILLED FINGER WEIGHT AND TOP WEIGHT
MESSENGER LOW RG = FINGER WEIGHT MEDIUM
RED PULSE = FINGER WEIGHT AND TOP WEIGHT = LIGHT OIL TO DRY
EBONITE YING YANG SPARE BALL.
