Impulse Solid
« on: June 12, 2017, 10:40:34 AM »
Has anyone thrown this ball? I just brought one last Thursday and this ball hooks a ton for a mid price ball. Was just wondering what is everyone's thoughts about this ball.

it seems to be a good ball, everyone I've seen throwing it really likes it. Long time track guys compared it to the Legion Solid

I can agree with that maybe a little earlier than the Legion Solid. Now granted my LS has polish on it so maybe I need to experiment and see how close they are.

I agree, this thing handles way more oil than I ever see.

I wanted a brand new ball, as I hadn't bought one in several years, and settled on this one, figuring if it was too strong, polish would fix that.   It didn't for me.

Even at 3000 abralon with a light polish job, it still reads our house shot too much/too early.

Got it to replace (hopefully) a 16 year old V2 finished at 2000 abralon. Even with the 3000polish finish, it's way stronger. WAY stronger.

Other than that, the ball rolls real good, with good characteristics. Has a real nice skid/hook/roll pattern, and the carry is also pretty decent as well, just be aware that, for me at least, it seems to be a ball where the cover is pretty strong and likes to want to read the pattern early.

Not a bad thing, as many like a ball that does this, but I need it to be a little cleaner through the fronts, and wish I had gotten the original, or maybe even a Side Swipe.

If you have enough oil, or enough speed, to get it through the fronts clean enough, I could see this being a really good ball.

Same thoughts as stated above.
Its a step up from my sideswipe solid
I have the Impulse Solid and SS solid drilled the same (pin under ring finger)
love the motion on both of them

Haven't thrown it, but looks incredible. Based on BJI, seems comparable to a Haywire, Tyrant, and Scandal. Cleaner than those, but still relatively early in comparison.

I have the Impulse and have about 120 games on it. FWIW, in my opinion this ball needs oil. It can handle medium heavy oil but is not good on the dry. I have it drilled 4 1/2x4x2, pin up with a weight hole. This is a very controlled smooth arc, about 8.5 boards from the break-point for me. When it goes flush it is devastating but if you're a little flat it seems weaker than I think it should be. I can't compare to other balls as this is my only ball except for my spare ball. Overall, I am pleased with it.

This was my first Columbia ball that I purchased after a demo day at our bowling center and I liked the way the ball read the lanes. I have all of my equipment drilled pin up but the pro shop guy talked me into pin under and I just had no luck throwing this ball with several different surface changes so I had him redrill the ball with pin up between the fingers and threw the ball for the first time today and what a difference the way the ball read the pattern so much better threw a 266, I left the ball at the last finish which was 4000 and I am totally liking it a lot now, will try it out in league Monday.
